I have a Reflex XTR version from 2004 which always worked well. I now have a new computer running Windows 7. The old CD that came with my version won’t install. I have the original dongle that came with the sim that I purchased. Will this still work?

Thanks for any help.

Will it work for what? If you can't get Reflex installed, it obviously won't work for that.

If you mean work for RF/Phoenix then no. If you mean work for FMS or one of the free sims? Probably would. Couldn't say for sure though.

I think most of the dongles just make your radio behave like a joystick as far as windows is concerned. If that's the case with yours then I imagine it'd still work fine.

The problem with RF/Phoenix is their dongle/radio contains a hardware encryption key for unlocking the software.

If it can't hover, it ain't worth flying.

Yah, what happened to Reflex? They no longer make it? Back when I owned Reflex, I used to be able to download the new versions for free. Also, if you have Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise, you can run the older versions of Phoenix in Windows XP mode.

The Reflex program will work , it's just the installer that doesn't work on Vista and Windows 7 .
What you need is to do is install Reflex XTR on a machine running XP , then copy the Reflex folder over to your PC , create a shotrcut from the exe. file to your desktop , and away you go .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

You can go to the Reflex web site and download the program for free for W7. Your current hardware will work with that program. So, now the program is free, but you must buy their hardware to operate the program. There's only one glitch...you can't use any of the current 2.4 totally digital radios with that hardware, but they will trade with you for free. By "hardware", I'm talking about the cord.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

In fact, yes, it does. I am currently running it on Windows 7 with no issues. With the original cd files, nothing additional.

When installing, go onto the CD, right click on the exe/setup file.

click properties.

then there will be a tab for compatibility, click Windows XP mode.

then install.

Ok,

First a little more info about the version of Reflex XTR I am trying to install on a Windows 7 machine (64 bit).

- copyright 2004
- cannot find a version number
- installed and worked on old PC with Windows XP (32 bit)

I have tried installing with properties/compatibility set at Window XP (Service Pack 3) as well as Window XP (Service Pack 2) .

Right after it asks me to plug the dongle into the USB, I get the error:

“An error occurred during installation: ERROR_IN_WOW64”

When I click the “about” button to get information on the ERROR it goes to the “Installation Successfully Completed” window with the FINISH button displayed.

Once it is finishes all I have is the Reflex Model Editor, not the actual Reflex XTR Simulator.

I found this thread here on RunRyder:
http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t249875p1/

So I see what is going on. It seems that my choices are to install on my buddies Windows XP machine and copy the folder to a thumb drive and then put it on my Windows 7 PC.

OR

If I can find a download of Reflex XTR version 5.01 up to 5.03 I believe that would work. Not going beyond 5.03 will allow me to use my existing original dongle. However, I can only find one place to download and it is a German version which is Greek to me.

Anybody know where I can find an English version 5.01 up to 5.03 for download

**************** UPDATE **************

Did the XP install + thumb drive + copy to Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. It worked. I copied the Reflex folder into Folder “Program Files (x86)”

Now attempting to update to version 5.03 by updating through:

http://www.modelrectifier.com/rc-pr...s-downloads.asp

…… XTR 5.01 Indoor Update …… said this was my current version

…… XTR 5.02.01 Slope Soaring and F3C Update ….. DONE

…… XTR 5.02.02 Arizona Model Aviators Field Update ……. Said it could not find version 5.02.1 - Update Aborted

……. XTR 5.03.0 STEP 1 Update……. Said it could not find version 5.02.1 - Update Aborted

I found that even though it said the “XTR 5.02.01 Slope Soaring and F3C Update “ was complete it actually never updated the program. I clicked on properties/details on the program and it say 5.0.1.0. But the version file says 5.02.1???

Maybe it is my PC blocking the updates? I clicked on the Reflex folder and un-clicked the “read only” button but that did not help. Disable the Norton Security program, still no update.

Any ideas on getting updated to version 5.03. I would like to have the “preview” feature in the Model and Scenery selection windows as well as the extra models and flying areas that come with that version.

At least I have the sim running again, thanks for the help.

**************** UPDATE **************

I decided to try again before going to my buddies house. I used Furious Predator's advice for the install .exe file. But I changed the compatibility on the Reflex .exe after it was copied to my programs folder and the updates worked.

Now I believe if I want to upgrade beyond 5.03 I will need to pay some $$$$$$. I think I will be just fine with 5.03

Thanks again

glad it worked, the updates are free, and you use the same install method to get them going (compatibility mode).

Hi!

Reflex XTR² (V 5.05.x) - The Distributor and Support has changed, not the Programmer:
old: http://www.reflex-sim.de
NEW: http://www.simwerk.de (Support)

- Owner of Reflex 5.00.00 to 5.03.xx will find the latest full version (DE and EN) at the Simwerk's Download-Center, this Version 5.03.1 is installable on XP / Vista (and Windows 7) and it's FREE. There is a prob installing on Win 7, after it's installed, the reflex.exe is missing, copy the file from an Vista or XP installation.

- Also owners of 5.04.x, download the latest free full version 5.04.1.

- 5.05.x has auto updates via Internet.

Best Regards

Ronski,

If I want to go beyond version 5.03.1 will I need the updated dongle?

If so, how much will it cost me to update to the new dongle?

Thanks.

Hi Chomp,

you'll need the Hard-/ Software update (The hardware-update contains a new interface, a new connection cable for your transmitter as well as the latest full version of the Reflex® XTR 5.05), in Europe you have to pay 99.00 EUR = 136.00 USD incl. 19 % Tax excl. Shipping costs (by returning the old dongle).
I don't know if there is an update-option in the USA.
It seems, that modelrectifier.com only sells the fullversion but other shops?
The European fullversion costs 219.00 € in USA USD 219.00, so it's possible that there might be an 99.00 USD update option on US market?!
