Greetings All,
I was wondering if I could get some feedback on servos for a scale flying, what I will be building is the T-Rex 600 with MI-24 HIND Russian Attack Helicopter from RC Aerodyne http://www.scaleflying.com/product_p/tfmi246.htm

For this type flying would the JR DS821 servo be sufficient for cyclic? Torque: 72 oz-in @ 4.8v, 88 oz-in @6v Speed: .19 sec/60° @ 4.8v, .15 sec/60° @ 6v and has nylon gears.

I am trying to avoid spending 90.00 each for servos as this will not be flown 3D or even close to it.

Any input/suggestions for servos on this would be greatly appreciated.

Also I did not plan on doing a multi blade head as I dont know anything about them with regard to set up or flying, This project is going to pretty much stand off scale and it will be a Flyer not a Hanger Queen or display model.

The Multi blade head would be nice but again just dont know anything about them and I do realize that if I did go that route better servos would be a must.

Any feedback on multi blade heads would be great also as far as which one and how they work.

I use futaba 3010, $25. Lots of torque and very fast just not digital. Ive got over 100 flights in a scale bird with them and even 3D them a bit in my Trex 600ESP.

Don't let people tell you you need digitals, analogs use less juice and are cheaper for scale birds.

Servos

I like to use a coreless BB servo.... with good torque and not overly fast... for my sport and even competition machines, the Futabe 9202 has always been a solid choice and will not break the bank....

Good luck and welcome to the "Scale" side....

Stan

I agree Futaba 9202 is an ideal servo.

I was looking around last night and found some Fut 9202 servos, these are analog 132oz at 4.8V and speed of .19 I think this may be the ticket here for this ship and the good thing is I already have them.

Yeah I did have a set of 9202's on my 700E. They were very nice and have ball bearings which makes em a little nicer than the 3010 servos. Couldn't really notice a performance difference though.

Forgot To Mention

I forgot to mention that Horizon has a warning on thier site about the 821 servo... not to use on heli's larger then a 30 size... something about the "vibes" causing the output gear to fail....
I have used them on up to 600E scale helis with no problems, but I guess the nitro birds tend to vibrate a bit more!!!!

Good Luck with your scale project.... I will have to take a look at the 3010 servos some time.... but you can be comfortable with the 9202'sStan

9202 servos are only 56 oz at 4.8
9206 are 132 at 4.8. I believe this is what you want.

I use the Futaba S3305, metal gear and 100oz torque. Only $35.

You won't care so much about what people think of you when you realize how little they do

I was using S3152,s on my MD500/Trex600e. They push out 69oz at 4.8V and are fine with the conventional head. However, I have test flown the model twice with a 5 blade head and noticed that the head will oscillate when it gets hit by a gust of wind. This is a little un-nerving as the servos are also plastic geared, so there could be a risk of stripping a gear. I have just changed them for ACE 1313 coreless digitals.

Hitec

Look into Hitec servos, they may just be your answer. They are all I use in my heli's. 625MG-76oz, 645MG-103oz or better yet the 965MG-103oz or 985MG-133oz coreless servos work great all at 4.8v or 6v is even more torque.
