Been away for awhile, have drifted away from helis entirely and just been flying planks. Always good info here and I have a question for you guys.
I see a few pages back A H9 Sundowner being mentioned. Well I have a 50 size coming that I wanted to power with a Jett Engineering 60LX(134mph)but money is just too tight. I'm thinking instead of using a OS50 Hyper. Should do well if propped into the correct RPM range (17000/18000)as far as I can figure.
Have any of you tried this engine in a plank and what advice would you offer for my specific application? I've seen it used on the smaller 36 size and it was really haulin but is too much for the smaller airframe. I wonder if it will pull the bigger 50 size with nearly as much authority.

properly reinforced, it should be fine. But you ARE throwing more weight on the front, meaning more weight has to be added someplace else, then weight becomes your issue, unless you don't mind landing at same said top speed....

ACKopter, I had a 50 Hyper on a .40 size Corsair a few years back and it was a screamer. I used a OS50 SX muffler with an APC 12.25X3.75W
prop. Throttle is a bit touchy due to the heli carb so it's a bit tricky to run in the midrange.

Depleting the world of parts, one crash at a time!!

Thanks for the reply jwhitacre and good to know. I already have the Jett mini pipe for it, this combo should put me in the 18000 rpm range or slightly above with a 10x7 or possibly a 10x8 prop. Should be an easy mid 120 mph set up if not a touch more.

I thought I would share my next project with you guys. I just ordered the Aerobeez 88" Sbach 300 with the orange/black color scheme. The Aerobeez line of airplanes are made in the same factory as the Peak Model and Goldwing models. I originally wanted the Sbach 342 with the Thunderbolt color scheme (red/black/white), but the more and more I took a look at the orange Sbach 300, I became convinced that I had to have it! Below are some photos of the airplane that were posted by another person on flyinggiants.com. The only difference between the Sbach 300 in the photos and mine is that I'm going electric (Just for you, Tryan )! Also, below are photos of the Hacker Q80-8M I’m running in the Sbach 300, including one in which I’m holding the motor in my hand.

Setup:

- Hacker Q80-8M 180Kv Motor (rated at 5500 watts)
- Mejzlik 24 x 10 Carbon Prop
- Scorpion Commander Series V 130A HV ESC
- Castle Creations 20A BEC Pro
- Savox 1256TG Digital Servos x 5
- 12S 5000mAh (2 x Sky Lipo 6S 5000mAh 30C in series)

The above setup is generating 5600 watts @ 122A for most running this setup. I'm not sure when I will have the Sbach completed, as my son's travel baseball is keeping me busy. I will keep you posted if you are interested and will share some photos of the airplane once completed.

Plane choice?

Been flying helies for 4 yrs and love it. I broke down and bought a Eflite umx Extra 300 and I am hooked. The next week bought a mini Trojan T-28 and all I can say it is amazing how well it flies. My question to all those who fly both what would be the next step? What plane would fly like the Extra 300? Something 40" ws to 4'. I really like trying to hover it and the tight fast rolls and fast cornering. Looking at the Carbon Yak, parkzone extra 300 . Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Got to have my cup of heli in the morning.

Park zone extra 300 is very durable once you get the gear to stay on. Not the best flyer with out mods. I would recommend

Twisted hobbies Telink 44 inch edge 540. Very durable. I have put this plane hard in the ground and just pick it up and fly again. Very durable and will take you to the next level.

Happy Thanksgiving

toolman,
Without a doubt try the 3DHS 41" Edge 540. They used to call it the Buck Huck as the airframe was $99.00. Not sure on current pricing as I bought mine over a year ago. I would'nt let the light weight airframe scare you either, so far mine has endured a mid air which completely destroyed the other plane, an inverted landing and another landing in a tree, all of which left barely a scratch. Will do all you mentioned and more.

Yes the Buck 10 huck is an awesome plane. I highly recommend that. I also had one and have seen many people run them into the ground. They take a licking and keep kicking. The foam is less work in the event of a bad crash though. Hot glue as opposed to some balsa work.

Happy Thanksgiving
