Ok, I know this is a heli board, but why not? I know that some of the other heli boards have several forums on airplanes. So, why don't we post all airplane posts in this single thread? Some of us here in the Esky forum also fly airplanes. I have also received some good advice and information in the past from some of you guys that fly airplanes, as well. Let me know what you guys think. If there is no interest, I will close the thread.

I think there is interest Jim, it's up to Mark Ryder for the most part, not any of us. I have flown Plankers for many more years than these "stinkin" heli's Not many fly Esky anyway so go for it bro, no complaints from me.

I never flew planks. I guess they are more complicated to fly in comparison with helis, because you cannot stop to hover and to think, isn't it?

Only my opinion KV, but I find them easier to fly than helis, which is the reason I only fly heli's now. I find planes boring now, but they are not boring for everyone. I still find heli's more difficult even though you can stop and "hover"

I too like heli's cause they are harder and very cool. But I am a RC modeler I like the scale stuff. Planes have so many different shapes and sizes thats what I find most appealing. I get a raging stiffy up under my skirt every time I take up my 1/4 scale Extra 260. And cant wait to get my new 1/6 scale p-47 in the air never had retracts before.

I never flew planks, so I do not have experience really. At least in helis, you can take off slowly, move slowly, hover slowly, stop when you want, land when and where you want, again slowly. Planks have to move all the time, otherwise they fall. But I never flew planks, so I do not know.

I tell ya one thing for sure--- hovering a plane without gyro help is VERY challenging for sure. No small task !

It is easier cause you dont have to do all that slow stuff. You dont even have too touch the sticks till its time to turn the plane around. You would be stick banging a plane on your first time out.

I fly whole flights inverted with planes but cant do it more than a few seconds with a heli.

Do yourself a favor get yourself a parkzone t-28 BNF and give it a try it uses 3s 2100 lipo's and is a blast.

IMO, you get way more stick time vs. repair time with planes. With planes a dab of "hot glue" can get you back in the air---- not so much with heli's Skinkin Heli's I Love heli's regardless

I just received my next airplane project today and began the build tonight...the Kalteisen EPP Extra 260 40. This is a full-fuse EPP foamy with a 42 in. wingspan, 43 in. in length and an AUW that should come out to somewhere around 28 - 32 oz. The fuse is 2 in. thick EPP and the airfoil wing is 3/4 in. thick EPP at it's thickest point. The ailerons, rudder and elevator are comprised of 9mm depron. I'm setting up the 260 with the following:

- Heads Up RC 3536 1050Kv Motor

- EMAX 40A ESC w/3A UBEC

- 12 x 6E Prop

- Tower Pro MG90 14g Metal Gear Servos x 4

- AR6100/DX7

- Zippy 3S 2200mAh 25C Lipo

See my photo below. Just glued the main wings together. I'm looking forward to putting this plank through some abuse .

if your flatout 3d flying your plane in a small box it's almost as hard as Helli's cause your constantly on the sticks just like a heli, now if your leisurely flying around no way as hard

racin,thats a foamy o ya you'll be 3d' n for sure

Nice little Extra 260 racin, should be a fun plane
I finished up my 64" Cub Bee last week and it's just waiting for a Magnum 70 4-stroke. If it flies half as good as the 45" version I will be happy

Started with helis, added planks later. Love 'em both equally, and love even more that they're so different. IMO helis are for thrills, planks are for relaxing.

I have a bunch of fixed wing. Selling/sold off most of the Nitro powered stuff. Keeping a Funtana 40 and Ultra Stick 40, both with 50SX-H heli motors.
