RJX 450 FBL head questions...

Justin Stuart (passed)

I'm ordering an RJX 450 FBL head for my Trex 450 Pro. I understand that I need to use some extra parts in order to complete the build. I do not have a stock 450 Pro head to take parts from, so can anyone tell me exactly what parts I need to order to make this RJX 450 head flyable?

Actually if you look at the assembly manual at Helidirect. It tells you what original Align parts you need. If I remember right the part numbers are highlighted in red color.

Unfortunately, it has been my experience that a lot of the parts listed in red in the HeliDirect RJX diagram do not correspond to actual Align parts.

Align makes a lot of different size feathering shafts, aluminum collars, washers, and ball links. It would be nice to find someone who could tell me exactly what to order.

Perhaps I should just call HeliDirect and see if they can advise me?

I bought the HDE 450 XL pushrods for my 450SE V2 with the RJX head. I used the upper hole so if you use the lower hole just add the distance between them for the rods you buy/manufacture.

I measured the length needed on the rods for the RJX head using the upper hole to around 34-35mm, using the 35 mm rods you have to screw the rods almost to the bottom of the ball links but it works, better than the original ones that are a little too short to feel safe.

Align HS1129 Linkage Rod Set
1.3mm x 35mm

If you own a 450SE V1/V2 and buy the RJX FBL head you have to get following parts as well:

http://www.readyheli.com/HS1129_XL_L...E_p/hs1129.htm
Get this kit with 35 mm pushrods or manufacture them your self in one way or another.

http://www.readyheli.com/H45048_Link...3_p/h45048.htm
You have to get this kit since the long linkage balls is needed in this kit, the V2 balls doesn't fit the main blade holders. Long linkage ball (M2x2.5) x 1 (4.75x19.68mm)

http://www.readyheli.com/HS1291_Alig...8_p/hs1291.htm
Use the washers in this kit or the following washers in the RJX kit, in the RJX kit they are half the thickness of the Align washers. I used the Align washers, worked perfect.

http://www.readyheli.com/HS1268_F3_8...g_p/hs1268.htm
Use the Align ones, at least I heard that in the RJX kit for the T-Rex 500 the quality of the RJX thrust bearings are poor. The Align ones is probably better.

http://www.readyheli.com/H45021_Feat...3_p/h45021.htm
Get this kit and spare aluminum collars like theese:
http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/...roducts_id=4789

Or this kit with the collars included:
http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/...roducts_id=4805

The small washers (H45023) to be used behind the swash driver arm (FL-450-60249),
I found a spare pair in my SE V2 spare kit bag. Or just use the ones from your V2 head.
http://www.rjxhobby.com/Uploadfiles/450FBL.pdf

When you have assembled your RJX head you are going to get 2 screws left, I think they are meant for the feathering shaft, nut I used the Align screws here too...

In the picture I have got the 450 Pro swash, it isn't mandatory at all. I just wanted the complete head to look nicer and maybe work a little bit better. But I think that the V2 swash is in good quality so never mind my swash swap.

Thanks Stolpe. That head looks real nice on your V2. But did you know that your Infinity Hobby links don't work.

I see that, will try to fix it...

I also found out that HeliDirect and probably others sell the bladeholder balls separately, not Align but it should work as well also.

It's too bad RJX doesn't just sell a kit with all of the extra parts in it.

AGREED ... especially if you are not using it on a TREX. Same 'problem' with the 500 head. BUT, they are quite nice.

I've been happy with the Gaui head on my other 450, but I don't like having to add weight to the opposite blade to balance out the "vibe-o-matic" one armed swash driver. I thought I would give the RJX head a try and see how it works out.

Just to clarify, the RJX FBL package does not come with the little washers that go between the head block and the two washout arms? The parts listed in the drawing as # FL450-60249A?

I got the RJX head today, and indeed it is missing the two little washers that go behind the washout arms. You can see the washers in this link:

http://www.helidirect.com/align-met...pro-p-11170.hdx

Does anyone know where I can buy these washers separately? I really don't want to spend another $20 just to get two tiny washers.

I posted a thread in the Align section asking the same thing.

This site seems to sell the washer separately. Haven't bought things from them, so I don't really know. At least I think they sell the parts, they have prices on the part at least.

Just so that you know if you still missing two washers.

I can recommend FastLad Performance, they also seems to have similar washers:

It looked to me to be exactly the same size as the stock 450Pro dampener, but it fit perfectly into the RJX head block.

Hi all im just in the process of setting up my RJX fbl head on my Trex 450 se v2 with the BeastX. One thing I have found when adjusting the cyclic swashplate limits is there is far to much binding even after adjustment with the rudder stick! This leads me to believe I need to raise my swashplate but by doing this it means I need to lengthen my link rods by approx 5mm. I have all but one of the link rods in my spare but still need one aprox 40mm (length of metal only). Has any body else exsperienced this or can recomend away around this.
Regards Liam.
