Hmm.. Raja loves it, Pat hates it.

Raja, do you see the problems that Pat has?

I'd like to understand how it mounts to the frame. Raja, are those extra parts mounted to the frame rails? It seems their mounting plate will go to the frame and not the engine. Do you have pictures of it mounted and with it removed?

How does it work for you, do you find that it can fall off at all??

Seeing the keyhole shapes, I could imagine that if the plate was mounted upside down, then when you pulled on the rope, you would pull the starter towards the open end of the keyhole instead of towards the closed end. Pat, do you think this is the problem you are having?

Pull starter works for me

I never had an issue with the pull starter popping out while pulling. I think it is is installed right it should not do it. Its possible that Pat installed it out of round (not centered) and that is the cause. I say that because while the drawings tell you where to drill (measurements) to line it up, I sighted through the plate for engine lineup before drilling and found that if I had used the measurements my plate would have been off-center. Not sure if that was a specific issue with my helicopter or not, but I just drilled in the right place to get the plate centered and ignored the measurements.

Yes, the parts mount to the frame rails. About the only ammendent to the instructions is that I recommend using small tygon tubing instead of silicone tubing on the bolts as the silicone only lasts so long before splitting and falling off. Also, you may need to use a different amount of spacer washers to get the engagement to the engine to be 100% depending on the height of your engine in the frame. Once setup and installed, its a no brainer and it works every time.

Also, if your engine is setup right, it should start with only 2 pulls when cold. Prime the bulb to flood the carb, close the choke, pull once only. Open the choke and pull a second time and its running already. If you pull more than once with the choke closed then the engine will flood and you will need 4 to 5 pulls with the choke open to clear it and get it running. Just an fyi...

Right!

Yes fidman, I meant carb but misspoke. However, I edited my email to make it right. Thanks for catching that!

I've been using the removable pull start from day one, and I've never had an issue. Yes - you do sometimes need to tilt the machine to see where the pins are, but to me, that's not a big deal.

I also had to sway a bit from the dimensions that MA recommended for the mount holes.

My only complaint is that I have a habit of tossing the starter on the ground where I'm standing, and I usually forget to pick it back up at the end of the flight!
