I've a new TP battery 11.1v 1350 amp 3 cell. It went dead while I was using it to set up my heli on the bench. I've a durtax ice charger but it won't take a charge now. Someone said to use another battery and give it a quick zap, does that sound right?

There is a good chance you killed it by draining it down past the minimum 3V per cell spec.

If you can charge the individual cells VERY SLOWLY through the balance connector, up to the point where the cells are above the 3V each range, you MAY be able then to charge it slowly using your Duratrax charger. This is a hit and miss proposition, you probably learned an expensive lesson -- don't discharge LiPos till they're dead.
