That pic is a classic.

Hey TG, you ever go out on Priest Lake fishing alone? Ever? I used to go out on Lake Pend Oreille all the time alone, and sometimes the water got real bad, especially in the spring when the temps were COLD. I was always life jacketed up, but all that would mean is my corpse would float. I thought about the danger, and I was very careful. I just could never find anyone who wanted to get up in the wee hours and fish with me, and I wanted to fish. That's just how it is, you have to take risk sometimes.

Fly alone all the time. In the field behind my house. Seldom go to the club field. To many LARGE planks practicing pattern. It does get lonely on occaison, but it is also very peaceful. Its a gorgeous place to fly. I keep a path and lz area mowed. Check my gallery.

Our club only has about 55 members of which probably 25 are active. I would say more than 75% of the time I fly by myself.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

I started flying alone (1974) and now I continue it.

I always keep the heli skids at eye level say when I'm flying five to ten feet away from me.

Now if you don't keep good maintenance safety before and after each flight....I can assure you; that, it will be just a matter of time when you'll see the stars..

You know? That thought had never entered my mind....

as a pilot in Vietnam and commercial heli pilot (before I got "Agent Orange piosoning) and had to stop flying everything (airplane and heli's ..full scale); I would never slam another pilot.

Sorry...no foul intended.

I fly my 450 alone most of the time. However, I'm not a 3D guy either. Not that that has a huge factor in the mix. I usuall fly at the local Elementary school when nobody's around. Usually 730-8ish on Sat mornings. Walkers stop and watch every now and then, but I usually set her down if they get too close or have pets/dogs. Has been working out for me, however I would like to find something with more of a windbreak, as my field is pretty open, and she has a tendency to sail on me during circuits.

JC

I used to be normal, but then I started flying heli's....

NEVER FLY ALONE!

I received a lot of flak for this in another thread, but her I go again!
In MHO you should never fly alone. This means helicopters and planks of any size and power. An electric can be even more dangerous than a fuel burner. I have friends who have lost the use of their hand or a finger or two from electrics. I started flying helicopters back in the late 70's and early 80's in New York when very few where involved in the hobby. I was lucky to have a connection with an importer who helped me through the build and setup. When I went to fly at a local closed school field, I always brought someone along, remember this was before cell phones but even so you have to be able to make the call. Quite often in the late spring it was my neighbor. A very good looking 20 year old college student who did not have much interest in flying but wanted to get a jump on her tan at the very secluded site. She would setup on the grass behind the field fence so she was fairly protected from any run away. One warm late may Sunday morning we were at the field and I attempted my first loop. I lost it at the top and the bird came crashing into the center of the field at full throttle. Hte battery came flying out and it was beating itself to death on the ground when she came up next to me and asked if I was going to stop it. Imagine my shock when I looked over and she was topless! I had not noticed her in her lounge chair but when she jumped up she either forgot or did not care that she had left her top on the chair. So see, it does pay to bring along a friend!
On another occasion a friend of mine had tried to hover his bird for the first time in the spring before going to the field. A wind caught it and spun the bird around and came at him. he panicked dropped the radio and found himself cornered. The heli caught him square in the back and the tail hit his calf. The shock left him unable to even think and he was bleeding bad. Being home alone he had no help. Fortunately his neighbor herd the strange noise and came to investigate. Otherwise it could have been worse than 75 stitches across the back and 25 down his leg!
Please Do not fly alone!

Causality is the Root of all Life!

Yeah... then also Please Do not DRIVE alone!...You might get a flat or worse roll the car and you will need help!

nice story though...but in my opinion someone lounging in a chair and not paying attention is far more dangerous than flying solo!

Fly, Fly then Fly some more!!
