New design for starter shaft should be available soon. Good to see Kasama is doing what he does best, designing groundbreaking innovative heli parts!

Why would you do that? Two opposing grub screws pinching flats does just the same. From a production engineers point of view, it may look pretty, but there's far easier and more economical ways to achieve a similar end result...

Looks good. I hope it is a little
harder than the current shaft. It
will work fine. I like the idea of
a compression/hex fit. It will make
it easier to remove when changing.
The hex end will keep it from turning.

Is this fun or what :)......

I think the hex end makes a lot of sense! You guys own wrenches, right? As long as the hex end doesn't twist off the start shaft the pinch bolts will just hold the coupler in place.

Yep, that's the only reason I put
a small bolt thru coupling and shaft
was to keep it from any movement. If you
do that and the shaft doesn't turn off
then works great. Any idea when this new part
will be available ????????

Is this fun or what :)......

what was wrong with the old one??

only about 16 different people posting over two forums that their starter shafts failed!!

the hex end is the right thing to do, I don't think any starter would have any luck twisting that right off!

I have 4 old trashed starter shafts
that have either snapped the head off,
or stripped out until I ran a bolt thu
the coupling and shaft. That's what's wrong
with the old one. I have an Aurora coupling
on an extremely hard Aurora starter shaft that
has never caused me grief. Every time one of
the shafts go bad it means a compete shaft
teardown and wait for parts and redo and
hope it doesn't happen again. That's kinda
crappy for a bird that cost's this much. It
was a not very good design with a very soft
shaft to start with. I will bet a Srimok Canopy
that there are more than 16 people that have
had trouble. Ready Heli sold out of the YS shafts
the day they arrived. Hey, stuff happens, Kasama
is a good guy and I am sure he will fix it up
The pic of the new design looks more like what
Kasama would make

Is this fun or what :)......

All I can it's about time they admit there was a problem and fix it. I'm glad they are doing the right thing.

I have stripped 3 os shafts and the fourth is starting to. But, this looks very nice. I wonder if it will be a free upgrade the same as the tail gears. That would be great since we have spent so much already on new parts fixing this issue. I not a fan of using a different brand of parts on this heli.
Now if it was a different heli it would not bother me. Why is that??

Because this IS a very special heli Try
the small 2.5mm bolt thru the coupling and
shaft till they get the upgrade. I don't think
you will be disappointed.

I think this is a pretty neat example of how engineers work, I read a book on the making of the Boeing 777 and another on the Lockheed Skunkworks and they had to reengineer a lot of small parts, usually for hardness, cracks, material failures. You just know a new heli is going to have teething problems. The time it takes the manufacturer to provide better parts is a key to their success, look at Align! While others (Hirobo Lepton?) never provide them. I think Kasama is into really "elegant" solutions, which is part of the fun, and how many other kits have a work of art holding their starter coupling on its shaft? If this new hex coupling does the job it will set the gold standard and that's why I wanted the Srimok. But I gotta be honest, I've held back on building this thing to see what trouble people would have. I'm weak!! You guys that dove right in deserve a lot of credit for helping to work the bugs out. That's another aspect of the hobby to "enjoy"
So Please Kasama, fix the parts that need attention as soon as possible.

I also use the "2.5mm bolt thru the coupling" solution and now I can fly the bird if I want :-) Before that was only possible with good luck.
Killed 2 starter shafts.
The new design looks fine! Hopefully the material is much better than the old one ...

I just drilled mine on my drill press, EZ. If anyone wants to trade me a YS for an OS shaft I can send you the OS shaft with hole allready drilled.

AFAIC Kasama should come up with a jesus bolt instead of two screws holding the coupling.
