Started With a 60

My first Heli was a Hirobo Tsurugi in a BK117 body. The guy how was selling it won it in a raffle and had no intentions of flying Helis. I bought and started to learn flying heli with the body on. About 1 month later I had purchased all the parts to change it back to Pod and Boom and flew it for 10 months without an incident.

It finally died when the receiver antenna was caught in the rotor head and ripped it cleaned out, happened during a roll.

Funny you should ask. It was (is) an X-Cell 1001 kit. Bent metal frames, wood servo tray, home built wood blades, OS .61SFN and Futaba mechanical gyro.... and I just got done putting it back just so and flew it this week! I put a new pistion/cylinder and set of bearings in the motor so it was sloppy rich and the trusty rusty gyro did not like that... and it was windy... and the gyro (with a 5101 servo) didn't like that ether!... and dam that muffler is loud... I don't remember that...

I wouldn't trade it for the world but in the end, I like my 601 gyros and GV-1 and NEW X-Cell carbon SE/OS .91!

MFA SPORT 500

OOOOOO in about 1998-9 , I wish you lucky new guys could try this one.

you thought 3D was hard , some one should have one rigged up at a fly in , and see if you could hover it for 2 mins, 4 servos and no gyro, no collective, And i did it all for fun

I 'm dating myself along with the other two guys, but I must have been the first to have the Dubro 505 as I had mine in 1968 area.
Was way to hard to do anything much with it but it did get the basics. Then in 69 I proceeded to a Dubro Huges 300 ( first good forward flight and landings ) with O&R chain saw motor. In 1971 I considered my self good enough to buy a Kavan Jet Ranger. Now this was the bird back then and I guess some still fly them.

Mine was an LMH 100+ bought used. I got it to roll and loop. Forward flight made the tail ineffective. Once the engine quit at the top of a loop about 150 ft. up. Came straight down inverted. Cost to repair...... 57 cents for a link rod. That's why I liked it. It also fit in the car well.

Mine Was A GMP Cobra

It was 1985 and I started with a GMP Cobra, an OS .40 airplane engine with clamp-on heatsink head, a Kraft gyro, and an ACE Silver Seven AM radio that I built from a kit. Believe it or not, learned to fly with that thing!

Hirobo Shuttle Z w/ mechanical gyro and JR X-378

Then moved up to Hirobo Condor 60, JR PCM10.

The Condor met its demise when the Rx battery flew out of the front of the canopy after a particularly aggressive stall turn

That was a few years back. Current model is a Vigor CS, OS91, 10X

1ST HELI

My first one was a GMP Cricket, no gyro. Learned to hover, somewhat, several crashes later got a .50 GMP Cobra, learned forward flight but would not turn nose-in. Had to backup to get back to landing area. A few years later got a Kyosho Concept .30, learned to fly, then graduated to a JR Ergo .60 Sport.

Kalt Cyclone 50

My 1st helicopter was a KALT Cyclone 50. Oh my God! What a nightmare. I have video of this thing with floats on it etc. My learning curve was totally destroyed. Based on the plactic pitch slider etc. Oh my goodness. I still wake up in the middle of the night screaming "Cyclone" Aaaaahhh Run!

Yeah, I need help...
