Schluter Cobra

I started with a Schluter Cobra, 60 Webra and Kraft 6 channel. No gyro and Mechanical mixing. It took 2 months to build and 5-6 months to get the bird flying. There was one arm on the side of the frame with 2 bell cranks for the throttle mix and torque compensation (tail rotor mix). When I finally got it all sorted out (with a lot of help from Walt Schonard)I crashed in about 45 seconds. I do not think I ever flew that bird for more than 4-5 minutes at a time. My second heli was the Schluter Heli-boy, then the Helistar and Superiors. Finally the Champion. After Robbe bought out Schluter I went to the Hirobos and Raptors. I still have my Kraft Gyro from the early 80's.

My first helicopter was the Schluter Miniboy, back in 1984. Moved on to a Kalt Baron 28(1985), GMP Cobra(1986), GMP King Cobra(1987), Kalt Baron 30(1992), Miniature Aircraft Xcel 40(1993). Used a mechanical gyro in the Xcel, and the others were flown without a gyro. (Once in a while I'd swap out the gyro into another bird). Stopped flying RC helis around '95, and got back into them in 2006 with the Shogun 400. Still have all the old birds. The Miniboy is alive again, with the aid of EBay, today in 2009, but the rest are in dire need of restoration, with too little time to do so.

An Esky Honeybee King V2. This was just over a year ago. That heli sure didn't last long. Can't count how many times I crashed it.

hobby lobby /fma sport 500

MFA sport 500 fixed pitch.Desined to use an airplane engine and 4 servos. learned to hover on that thing. never actually flew it but wore out an os46 hovering it!!. Would always break the teetering wire if i remember correctly , anyone remember that?? It was given to me in about 1998.Mounted it on a Whitman stand that i borrowed from the same guy that gave me the heli than transitioned to a wiffel ball stand and never crashed it. Couldnt believe what a difference a collective bird made!!

Mantis with plywood sides, later bought plastic side frames... None of that helped! Had K&B 40 with no gyro. Never really got off the ground, belt would slip off. Later had Schleuter Mini Boy/OS50, then GMP Cobra w/OS50... great stuff! Now working on a TREX 450 (remembering the belt fiasco of the Mantis belt, but sure that TREX will be great....)./ On my way to SEFF Friday!/cp

My first heli was a,believe it or not, Kavan Glass Bell Jet Ranger !! It of course had no auto clutch/bearing but we didn't know the difference. I actually learned to fly on it and kept it in flying condition for quite a while. I had the glow plug pop a couple of times and it would hit pretty hard and break the wooden skid bows.A little glue/new skids and back at it.

First Heli 1986

1986 Kalt Baron 50 with Auto rotation, OS 50 FSR H ringed engine, GMP gyro, JR Century VII radio with 501 servos. I could hover it and fly it around in front of me a little, but that was it. Next in 1993 I got a shuttle zx and actually learned to fly it around and do loops and rolls. WOW. No computer radio, (not even a throttle curve or pitch curve, just a high idle point) no heading hold gyro, no engine governor. And no simulator, just dowel rods and whiffle balls for training gear.

First RC heli

First was a Venom ocean rescue. 4 channel co-axial. Got it for xmas 18 months ago flew it around the lounge for a month or two, i killed it by frying the 4 in 1 board.
Next was a package deal Artech falcon, pretty average 6 channel electric. I wouldn't rate this heli other than it had heaps of problems, taught me heaps and launched me and me mate into this hobby.
My mate was the smart one his first was a second hand sceadu 50. He has owned this for 12 months with no bingles. not bad i thinks.
My third and present crash test dummy Trex 450SEV2.
Fourth my very own sceadu 50 still working progress. only need gyro and tail servo. can't wait.

No one tell my wife how much it really cost!
