Paintjob

This paintjob was compliments of woody37. Thanks Woody. GREAT JOB!!! I'm very happy.

Also want to thank Coptor Doctor for the guidance he gave me on this build...Great Guy!!!

As you can see from the pics, the landing gear had to come off due to the paint not adhering properly, Woody will also be taking care of powder coating the gear for me. It's nice to have good friends.

Pretty good for a shade tree paint job! Enjoyed working on it. Really nice paint scheme. How much difference did it make on weight?

Weight

Not much of a difference on weight. I didn't even have to add weight to the nose. All it needed was about three clicks of down elev. for a steady hover. Other than that, that's it.

Here's my FunKey TwinStar using Hirobo Shuttle mechanics.

Did you make the landing gear yourself? I've been looking at the TT set, but not sure if it will fit.

The only thing that really concerns me about this build is the use of JB Weld on the pitch arm control. I know we checked it over pretty well, I bring this topic up to see if anyone else has a different way or means to move the control lever ball linkage back. I have seen others convert to ccpm and do away with the pitch control arm.

Just wondering if there is another way to do this.

Kenneth, that looks really nice with the three bladed head. He did make the gear himself as well.

Hey Kenneth,

I used steel brake line to fabricate the landing gear, and advise from the CoptorDoctor as well. If you do a search here on RR, you will find tons of info on this topic. It doesn't cost you an arm and a leg to fabricate and it looks alot cooler than the stock plastic skids.

Hey Woody, Looking forward to SMASH this weekend!!!

What did you use to glue the 2 windshield pieces? Also, was there alot of cutting and fabricating on the heli?

Hey woodrow,

Since I had to place the mechs as far back as I could to compensate for the pitch arm, the main top hole where the rotor head goes through had to be dremmelled out a bit rearward.

I used zap-a-dap-a-goo for the windows, which you can find at the local hobbyshop. This stuff has held up pretty good so far, but the real test will be on Saturday.

Now I need to go out and buy some Steel Brake Lines ...

I was initially wondering what everyone was talking about with regards to the Pitch Arm since both the Raptor and the Shuttle are mCCPM. This fuselage was originally made for the Hirobo Shuttle and required no modification to fit, it just slid into place.

When I was tuning my Raptor 50 yesterday that I realized the fundamental difference in for the Collective. Can't comment which is better, but the Shuttle did not require the space on top as the collective is all driven at the side.

Regardless, I had to dremel part of the top away to accomodate the Starter.
