There might be some that do that. But, the lions share of them will lay folks off because of lack of work. Or, they may do that just to thin the crowd out a bit and become a bit more productive in harder times and increase the margins in order to survive. Most will offer a cut in hours to keep their personal and not have to go through the expense of training new folks when they need them again.
If a company continues to lay off just purely to show a profit, they will pay a high price for that in the end game. What goes around, comes around.
