hi

Since the YS SR uses crank pressure (not exhaust) it would be favorable to use sponge clunks?

I have a SR coming tomorrow so was wondering if I should swamp the stock clunk for sponge clunk on my 700n

thanks

Yes, the fuel magnet is your best bet with crankcase pressure motors, like the YS91SR!
As Mike Fortin indicated earlier, they work amazingly well, just like anything though, replace the foam element maybe once every 6 months as preventive maintenance. (replacement foam elements are approx. $10.00 for two replacement foams)

I love mine on the YS91SR, gets every drop of fuel and no air bubbles sucked in!

Bird sat with no fuel for a couple of weeks and when I got it fueled, the sponge desintegrated.

Thats user error, not the fuel magnets fault. Fuel magnets work great. I think even better than the OS bubbeless clunk. Get yourself a handfull of bee bees pour some fuel in them and see how much it holds.

Didn't say it wasn't my fault. I just said that I ran out of fuel and after sitting for a while it desintagrated. Totally my fault, but that was before I knew better than to leave it with no fuel. I was just giving a heads up not to make the same mistake I made. I liked the fuel magnet when I had it. Just I'm a very forgetful guy sometimes and pay the price for it. I thought that is what these forums are for, to let other hobbyist know of your experiences and knowledge.

If you are flying a Stratus taking the tank out is not a problem, but a few of the other 90's like my 700's are mounted in the frame so taking it out every 6mo is a PITA IMO. Not for me.

When using the Fuel Magnet with a non-pumped motor you should leave your tank full of fuel at the end of your flying day.

You also need to fill up your tank shortly after every flight to push the hot gasses out of your tank.

This method will prolong the life of your Fuel Magnet.

IF you are flying the 700, you can run your fuel nipple on the OUTSIDE hole. You don't need to run it on the inner hole, this makes changing the clunk line a breeze since there is no need to remove the whole tank.

One of the beautiful things about the fuel magnet is that it is a sponge. It's not as dependent on clunk line or position. I don't recall the exact number but the sponge on the holds roughly 15 seconds of fuel. Follow Mike's advice and fill the tank after each flight and no only will the sponge last a long time so will your clunk lines.

+1 also fuel magnets get a bad rep from people simply using them wrong

Header tanks are a thing of the past, just like mechanical gyros & OS engines.
