Finally with a help from MMike 4#3B (now it is A again) started to fly again. MMike advised another tail motor. The story was that after I made Bell-Hiller mod, it started to flew bad, namely it did not hold tail, it was very twitchy and was hardly controllable.
In order to fix tail, I installed bigger tail rotor and it was better, but not for a long time - motor went down. After installation of more powerful motor on tail and returning to stock tail rotor and tweaking with expo, I finally made it flyable again. Under flyable I understand that I fly it, bit not heli flies me. Expo is back to 0.

Maybe somebody can share experience of conversion of 4#3A/B to brushless. I am not sure I will get some benefits, except for expenses. What do you think?

I converted mine to brushless.

I have the cheaper brushless motor.

The tail didn't hold well. And still not much lift.

I've decided I don't like this heli very much.

I've flown the MSR in the hobby shop for just a minute.

It seems like a much better flyer.

I just don't want to bother tweaking and tuning with my Novus FP any more.

Best of luck to you though HKV

when in fff the msr does not turn well but that is when you are pushing the little thing to its limts.

Does amyone know what kind of motors are on the msr? brushed?i think they are brushed. I think the could go for the upgrade if they are brushed.

Hi HB2K
yes , the mSR comes stock with brushed motors on both the main and tail , there is a new thread over at RCG showing a brushless conversion for the main

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1136944

he is hinting that he is running a brushless tail on the mSR too , but he is not ready to release info on that yet

MHO is that these little machines fly pretty well stock and for what they are , converting to brushless is not going to gain you much , you would probably be better off getting a 4G6 or perhaps a larger machine like a Trex 450 , if you are not happy with the mSR or the 4#3B FP machines

thanks. Do you think a brushless will help hold a little better??

Btw tail holds just fine on my current 4#3 with more powerful tail motor. Drifts a bit, but not that much. Pretty manageble. For sure tail on 4G6 holds better, but it has HH gyro, TT driven tail, so no surprises.

I cannot say I am disappointed with 4#3. I just had learning curve for BH upgrade, but it flies better because it is more reactive now.

Hi
i have a few of the 4G3s and love them , i bought a double brushless and was disappointed , it just seemed heavy and even with 20C batteries the flight times were much shorter than my stock 4G3s , i don't mind having to change out motors from time to time , as i do really like the way the stock setup flies

i have a mSR and it flies great for what it is , as a small Fp it is about perfect and i feel that throwing a bunch of money into a brushless conversion would be a fun exercise , but would probably not improve it much

this is just my opinion though , and if someone thought that a brushless setup would be the way to go , than more power to them , have at it and have fun , cheers

Does anybody have the same problem, namely backward flying 8s and hard turn to CW? Seems I cannot nail it down on 4#3. On HBK it is fine, on Rave even better, but on 4#3 I have to quite concentrate to do it smooth.

Just CW backward circles are fine, but transition from CCW to CW circle - problem. I know practicing will take care of it, but still strange. Why would it be?

Just changed main gear on 4#3A/B. It started to fly even better then before. Finally I get used to BH mod and with new tail motor, tail holds excellent for indoor flying. A bit of drift, but 8 min of flight time and pretty aggressive flight. No loops, flips or rolls. Motor comes down warm. Before it was hot. For sure motor will not last forever, but it is $5 to replace. Lift is not like on HBK, but it is OK. For indoor, living room flying quite adequate.

Btw, have you guys heard of new Walkera heli? Essentially 4G6, but fixed pitch. Have no more details. Just seen pictures.

HeliKV, new Walkera the CB100?

They also have a new 83 which is a Nitro 450 but I heard it was expensive.

I read that someone said the MSR has a coreless motor and lasts alot longer than a typical 4#3B brushless.

No, I refered to 4#6 heli:
http://www.walkera.com/en1/particular.jsp?pn=Z1460104

It is a fixed pitch version of 4G6. It has TT driven tail.

As of motor life, now I am more or less happy with current brushed version of motor. It lasts quite long. Maybe I had a good batch. I intend to order more motors and if they last as long as my current one, I would be happy. Maybe later I will switch to brushless, but there are many confusions about what brushless conversion is good.

I have not heard of Walkera 450 nitro.

Update on my Novus FP.

I took out my brushless motor /ESC / Flea converter. It was not flying well. Tail control was bad, and very little lift.

I put the brushed motor back in. WAAAY better.

I'm back in BINESS!!!

Edit: I should add that after I took out the brushless motor, I got some 20C batteries, had I done that first, I may have not opted for the brushless at all. I believe the 20C batteries help the weak lift problem in the Novus / 4#3B.

This is not as good as the MSR, but it's now adequate for my purposes; practicing orientation inside in crappy weather!!

MMike, glad you got it back int he air. That's nice heli actually. I use CJ power 20C battery and it wakes heli up. And having BH mod, then it is just terrific. Fast though...

I've been making the mistake of charging these little batteries at 2C.

I think they take in more Mah's at 1C.

I charge them at 0.5A, a bit more then 1C or using stock charger. Oversky battery looks like the best. At least on it, I half flipped 4G6 32 times in a row and could do more, but decided not to and ended flight just circling around. CJ power 20C looks like quite good for 4#3. (My old stock batteries look like too old and tired).

Btw, I use micro deans and direct soldering ESC to motor on 4G6 and micro deans on 4#3.

On micro-deans beware of knock offs. i bought a bunch - no good, although cheap.

How many flights are you getting on a main brushed motor?

I do not count now, but quite a lot in comparison with old ones. Let's say I fly 4 times a day and seems to me that my last motor lasted, let's be conservative 3 weeks (I think that more). Then it results in 4x7x3 = 84. I think something around 100 flights maybe. Previously it was way less. I believe my motor came from Terence at chinesejade, but I am not sure. I ordered couple more from him. I hope they are the same.

Oh and I try to make mesh perfect and keep oiling bearings.

After the flight (6-7 min) motor is hot, but not very hot. Earlier motor was very hot.
