You can adjust the gain "on the fly". Specfically most modern radios allow you to change the gain value when flipping from one flight mode to another. The two important rules with a 401 are
1. no trim or subtrim, they must be zero
2. Always initialize in heading hold mode, don't touch the radio or heli when initializing.
