Tail Mounted Camera on Trex 250 - Video

Just had to share my short video. I bought one of those cheap 8gb Keychain video cameras off ebay ($11 for the camera, $10 for shipping). I mounted it on the tail of my Trex 250 and made a short video.

The quality of the original video is actually very good. However, Youtube cuts it down a lot.

That is surprizingly good video all things considered.

A 250 makes quite an expensive flower trimmer

Per your private message request, here is the link to the guy I bought my keychain cam from. His seller name is mercifly. I bought from him because he had 10,951 feedback with a 98.9% positive rating. But there are lots of other people selling similar cams. -Steve

Really cool. ONe camera that surprised me was that RC Hero Cam that they always advertise for on real cars & RC cars. It takes pics, sequential pics, and video. It's good stuff.

WoW, that's really impressive for such a cheap little thing. The blades and head look cool swirling like that. I may have to get one just to goof around with!

does it use a memory card

Not this version. It has built-in 8gb memory, but no external memory slot. Some other versions have no built in memory, but can take up to 32gb micro SD memory card.

I'll take a photo with the cam mounted on my heli and post it later... -Steve

Here are a few shots. I hold the camera on with some tape placed in a "X" pattern. The pink foam is G-Pack +. It is very soft and squishy. It dampens out a lot of vibration. -Steve

How long can it record for?

Per the ebay seller, about 2 hours. But, most people using them are able to only get 1.5 hours or so. They say it is not due to the camera or memory, but the battery runs out.

The longest video I did (as a test) was 1 hour 6 min non-stop. And it was still recording when I shut it off.

Now that's cool.
How did you get it to balance setting back on the tail?

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

It weighs almost nothing. I just added a little foward trim and the heli doesnt even know it's there. -Steve

Another limiting factor is that these devices use Fat32 file format, not NTFS, so even if the battery didn't run out, the biggest single recording would be 4 Gig.
