Since it is a PCM tx, the signal is proprietary so only a PCM Futaba rx will work. Get the same channel of course

Actually now that I think about it I believe that it has PCM and FM. Does this mean I could use say a Hitec FM receiver with the same channel?

If it is FM, then you can use a different brand rx as long as it is on the same frequency and channel......Ron

New Swift RTF

Well I got my new swift and after going through it and lock tight all screws it is really nice, after looking it over it seems ok and a good friend of mine that owns a hobby shop thinks that it was a good deal to start with, he use to not only fly a swift but sell them also. I am going to replace the Gyro and the rudder servo as soon as I can and am thinking about changing over to my spectrum DX6i as soon as I can also.

I got a great deal from my hobby store friend, since he got out of helicopters I got a complete Swift 16 kit and a large box of extra parts for a great price, I have enough to build two more helicopters!!! At least I will not have to worry about any crash repair, and I got two sets of 550 wood blades in the deal.He also said I should run a 5s battery, so I got two Hyperion batteries and a hyperion charger to charge all my batteries with.

Now all I need is to get rid of some of the snow and wind that has been around here so I can go out and spool it up and see how things go with it.

Anyone that could use a spare part should PM me I have as many as five of certain parts I could maybe fix you up if you want.

Alright I'm having some real problems making a decision between the Swift RTF and the Trex 450 Sport Super Combo. I like the price of the Swift and the fact that it is larger than the Trex. However, I've heard that it has some issues out of the box. I just wanted to know what your opinions are.

Also, is the stock motor and esc setup on the Swift only limited to a 4 cell battery?

swift or trex 450

I think the trex 450 is a better quality machine and cost of crashing is lower...but the swift does have benefits as well due to it's larger size....

I am not a huge fan of the crap quality of the swift though..I managed to snap the head off of mine on like the 3rd flight...

Swift or Trex

I have yet to fly mine because of the weather here, but I have had two Trex's over the years and did not like them at all, I had a old JR.Voyager E that was better than the Trex in all aspects. Now remember that the Trex I had was the first one it was just called 450 none of the other garbage with it.

As for the Swift as I said my friend that owns a hobby store told me it is a great helicopter, and that it fly's well, and he had one and he had a Trex also and flew the swift the most. Remember he has no interest in this because he no longer sells helicopters at all in his store, he is just putting in his input because I asked him for it.

As for breakage remember this is plastic not metal and plastic is bound to break at sometime sooner or later, you want strong replace things with metal. As for flybarless or what ever, I do not know about that , when I started there was no such thing as that, so I am neither interested in it or have the money to spend on it.

I would say get the Swift you can use much larger blades on it and it will have more power at lower head speed, plus the weight will be a plus in the wind, as for batteries I have two Hyperion 5s for my Swift. This is just my input you can take it or leave it, the final decision is yours because it is your money and what will make you the most happy!!

Thanks for the responses guys. Jag those pics of your headless Swift were pretty interesting by the way. I am no where near any level of 3D yet so I shouldn't have to worry about that happening to me for a while I guess? Moe I think you have a nice looking Swift there. I'd be glad to hear how if flies when you get it up in the air. Did you have to modify anything to use your 5 cell batteries because I thought I read that the max voltage is 14.8V for that motor.

Motor...

Those stock motors are fine for 5s...just have to gear properly that's all.

I think my swift blew apart because I was spinning 550's on the stock block...

I have since gone flybarless with an all metal head...so it's not a problem now..my Swift actually flies pretty DAMN good on 6s with 550's and flybarless...

It actually handles 3d pretty well also..

That is very different from my experience. I have 2 Swift 16s, and find them both to be better quality helis then the Align Sport 450.

One Swift is set-up with the basic motor and ESC as found on the RTF, (actually a used RTF from which I removed the supplied electronics and replaced with basic Spectrum gear) and installed in a scale fuselage. The other is set-up for hot 3D, with their 600+ motor, 80A ESC using 6S/4200 lipos (this is a hot machine at 2100rpm)!! The scale Swift has about 80 flights on it now, and is doing very well and the 3D machine has over 300 flights and all I have done is replace some worn ball links!

So Jag72, if the rotor head broke on yours, I would bet that you were using bigger blades then it comes with, and turning it up past the designed rotor speed. Bigger sport type electric helis are not designed to turn at the same rotor speeds (2300 - 3000) that the smaller 325mm bladed mini electrics do.

I judge the quality of a heli by how well it holds together over time without having any issues. So as you can see these are proving themselves very well.

As for the Swift RTF, I think the heli , motor and ESC are great, but are sadly let down by the electronics supplied with it (servos, Receiver, transmiter and gyro). But I can say the same about the Align Sport 450.
