The frame is a bit of a mess where the engine mounts and will never line up properly with the holes that big, That’s not the standard raptor fan shroud so it could also have a better fan inside and if so cooling shouldn’t be a problem, the rest looks like a GM Kit

I can also see blue powder on the base frame which suggests the clutch was slipping or you had a hot start

Recommendations for the throttle curve will be entirely based on your pitch curve - which appears is not the -10,0,+10 3D curve. Also, all bets are off when you set the heli up with one radio, and then fly it with another without reperforming the ENTIRE setup.

I assume that the throttle curve is set to 0,25,50,75,100? Please measure blade pitch at low, mid, and high stick and post the results. Also post the radio pitch and throttle curves.

yes, the blue powder is from the clutch lining..I replaced it and was a little tight but was later fixed and did not wipe the frame clean...i was too excited to fly rather than cleaning/wiping the frame.....as for the throttle curve I had it linear at 0,25,50,75,100 the pitch was set at -2, 0, 5,and 9...So I take it this is wrong? I am not sure about the GM kit...I have a raptor 60 and everything is the same as far as the frame. The previous owner did tell me he converted this using a kit from bought from gass er man. I did find that some of the holes were bigger and did not align with the engine and asked the previous owner...he said that the engine was secured enough though.....Just a bit more help if anyone can chime in...I set this up with a DX7 radio if anyone has a good setup where I can start I appreciate this....As I said before this is my first gasser and probably not the best one to start off with...(this was not designed to be a gasser) but for a trade on stuff I had, I felt it was a good start..now a question for input...would it be a good idea to repair the engine and keep the heli (looking about $120.00 for repairs) or just simply not mess with it? any input is appreciated..Thanks

"-2, 0, 5,and 9"

If 0 degrees is truly what you are set at for 1/4 stick, there is no way you were hovering.

Where are you getting $120 from? Checkout davesmotors.com for parts and replace with stock 231. $19 for piston, $38.25 for the Jug, and $6 for the ring plus gasket. Once you learn the ins and outs of gas motors, send it in for an upgrade if you want more power.

Bwarkent,

Yes, you are right..those were the setup for my nitro..It makes sense that I could not hover at 0 degrees...so I double checked them right now and this is what i have....for low stick +1 degrees, 25 +4 degrees, 50 +6.5 degrees, 75 +9 degrees and high +11 degrees....I cant believe I messed up this bad...I didnt check the pitches and now I face the consequences....the pitch curve on the radio is set to linear from 0 to 100...is this wrong?

I would guess that with that gear ratio, blade size, and a 231 engine that 25% throttle was way too low of a head speed - I would guess 40% would be a more ball park number. The throttle curve will vary on setup. Anyone that runs that gear ratio and a 231 care to comment?

Regardless of pitch range, the recommended is that the pitch range be linear(throttle curve will not be). I would recommend you fix the engine and then go through the entire helicopter as if you just built it.

I built a couple of these 90 gassers a few year ago and I've just found one thread you might like to read, the throttle curves I used are on page six but it will all depend on how you have the arm setup so don’t just copy them, your best starting off low and working up something like 00 15 20 30 100, it sounds very low when your used to nitro machines but you will soon get the hang of it.
You will probably find more 90 conversion threads if you search but this is the two I found.
Hope it's of some help to you

I find the best way for me

is to get your pitch gauge and visibly check the pitch you have at each point, adjust your radio to suit even if the percentages look odd.
Your engine speed was probably too low for the amount of pitch you had dialled in,a sure engine killer. This is where a governor can be a big help to someone new to gassers.

Team- unbiased opinion,no experts here just trying to help thats all.K.I.S.S principle upheld here

Well that`s ofcause up to you, but you`ll save fuel money
every time you go flying a gasser, compeared to a methanol/nitro.

And like posted above, there are people in here that can help
with that specific setup Raptor/zenoah, and if you don`t
expect it to fly like a super pumped 50 size, then you
should stay with it.

Methanol/nitro = oil all over, gasser= clean model

Regards Bo
