Out of curiosity, how often do you tear down your birds and rebuild them?

I strip mine down to the last bolt every winter and inspect, clean and rebuild. I would imagine if you crash more often then this may not be an issue.

Since my last crash was last season, I am getting ready to do the teardown thing.

Walk on water long enough, eventually you will get your feet wet.

I usually do it 2 times a year. Beginning of winter and summer, so now. Bearing came out of the motor last week.

Whatever that breaks I fix it or replace the wore out parts. That is just me though. I probably should break it down at least once a year. Maybe I do that this winter.

Only when it crashes. Perform routine check up on the tail and head and check for play.

given that i dont crash, which is often the case for my 90. then once every winter. i just rip it apart, clean it, check things, send the servos in for servicing, and throw it back together again.

Naaa. Not me. Personally, I don't think its necessary to tear it down completely UNLESS.. I have a reason too. I occasionally pull the motor out, head and tail rotor assembly and thats about it. I just look everything else over without having to tear it apart. But thats just me. The tank and lines get replaced once a year regardless of there condition. My own rule of thumb.

I just oil all the bearings and put it away till next year,I do take the main blades and feathering shaft out so the dampers don't go bad.Once spring/summer gets here i'll do the basic checkup and fly..

I normally do a good perflight in the beginning of the day and then a quicker preflight before each flight. Ive caught things like servo horns out and links broken. Normally I'll have a crash before i feel like i need to strip it down but offen its 2 or 3 weeks i like to put new damperns and check things.

As rudyy said, I perform routine preflight before leaving home, checking for play, tail and head. At the field, I check all servos before firing up. Otherwise, I replace parts as I go. Thankfully I haven't yet crashed my large birds (600/700) since I owned them (6 months). I might do a bearing replacement on the 600, bought it used.

We don't have an off season here, it's pretty much flying 300 days a year.

Assuming I don't crash it, I might take the 600 apart in few months.

To be honest I only take the main body apart if there is a part that needs replacing but when I go in to re-place something I carefully check everything else whilst there. I have never personally stripped down and re-built the heli on a time basis or when nothing was wrong.
My last maintainance occurred when a bearing on a lay shaft was showing serious wear, has to replace the shaft and bearings and checked function of main sgfaft when there as well as the usual check of nuts etc for any signs of wear and tear.

Visual pre-flight as well as check for play, damaged items such as worn out links. I do an after flight at the end of the day or after every 5-6 flights. I am NOT tearing this thing down if I don't have to.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Of course I do post-flight maintenance and check all "major" bolts prior to flying, but never a purpose strip down.

.

In the rare case that I actually get 150 flights on any of my birds without crashing then I try to give it a good look over and check for bearings that are notchy or worn balls / links but like I said I usually get to do it earlier than that.
