Hi guys and gals, I am highwaystar.I've been into r/c for about 20 years or so.My mane interest has always been cars.I am very involved in large scale rc. Currently I have a HPI Baja 5b (in build stage) and an FG monster beetle pro. I have had a few micro and mini coax type helis. I really enjoy flying and kick myself for not getting into the air sooner.

I just ordered an Esky belt cp. I have read many mixed reviews about them. From what I understand the electronics are not the best. I plan on installing a Castle Creations ESC and installing my Eclipse 7. I have some 2200 batts to throw in as well.I also have the alloy head and tail for it.

I have read that the gears are on the week side is there a fix for this? What aftermarket parts are available for these? Any and all recomendations would be helpfull.
thanks,
highwaystar!

Ritchie Blackmore? hehe The Belt CP is a bit of a pain to work on but it's not the worst choice for a first "real" heli. Swapping the esc was a good idea. I Think the Blade400 gear will fit but I'm not positive.

Quit cryin' and start flyin'!

welcome to the hobby and the siteany problems or questions you will get help by a bunch of good guys here on the e-sky forum, this is one of the friendliest sub forums on RR

and by the way I can play highway star NOTE FOR NOTE,incuding the guitar solo.I have seen Deep Purple 5 times, Blackmore is awesome

it sounds like you are already on the right track.ditch any stock electronics you can.the design/frames/head is there, the elec is where the corners get cut.once you get some time under your belt a good gyro will help a lot.But I see you have a programmable radio, that also will help fine tune your heli

Hey thanks fender, you wont hold it against me if i tell you that I'm a die hard Gibson guy myself ('63 SG!).But i do love the Strat sound! It just doesn't fit me well.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm sure you will be hearing more from me in the weeks to come.I've also heard that it's a good idea to change out the main frame for the carbon,

On my 1/5 scale cars I boil everything that is plactic to add some flexibilty in case of impact, would this be an O.k. thig to do on the helis as well or not?

I love les pauls also I just happened to pick that for a screen name

not to sure about the boiling thing,I have heard about it with landing gear but not frames and such, you may want to test on a scrap piece before you do a whole frame.

many will disagree with me,but I am not a big fan of carbon frames, the only advantrage i can see is a SMALL reduction in weight, and for those of us here, our flying is not extreme enough to make use of a few grams.

the drawbacks in my opinion FAR outweigh the bling/weight.plastic tends to bend and go back where the same impact may shatter/break CF,expensive, and conducts electricity/static.

I'm sure you will hear opinions otherwise.none of my 5 helis have cf frames as I purposely bought the G-10 frames on my Atom 500 and KNIGHT503D,neither of my Mini titans have cf,and my HBK2 is all stock frame and head.

I prefer to put money to things that WILL make a direct impact on your flying such as better blades and more/better batteries.

Nothing and i mean NOTHING will impact your flying more in the early stages greater than a good charger and several good batts

Welcome to the addiction. I started with my BeltCP v2 last January.. I'm still not stable in a hover (I haven't had much flight time due to work and other stuff).

Adding a BEC or swapping the ESC is a good move. I put in a BEC and so far the ESC hasn't had any problems whatsoever.. barely even gets hot any more.

I would definitely NOT boil any plastic parts on the heli. You want them to be rigid and not flexible. If you have an impact, you will want to replace them. Any bend or deformation in the parts will translate to something being out of alignment and tolerance.

That makes sense. So then using alloy head and tail is more about rigidity than durability?

You know we say around here? If there's no video (or audio in this case) it didn't happen. JK, of course, but I would love to hear a Fenderstrat performance with your other well earned skill.

I haven't done the CNC head/tail yet - I keep trying to talk myself out of it for the moment.. BUT IT LOOKS SO PRETTY

From my understanding, rigidity as well as high precision, but durability is also good. The plastc parts - at the ones from Esky aren't known for their precision.

Thanks mgjones! I am worried that i purchased the wrong heli. I want to eliminate as many flaws as I can.I'm not worried about it crashing (I know that will happen), but when it does it should be due to pilot error, not because I didnt take the time to get this thing set up as best I can.

I guess the best thing is that if I do crash it you can get them CHEAP!Some of my large scale cars were costing upwards of 200-300 bones a week to keep them track worthy.

If and when I get comfy with this in the air I want to build a Trex 450 from all aftermarket parts.

Highwaystar,

I don't think there is any such thing as buying the wrong heli

I didn't have to do much at all (so far) to rebuild BeltCP v2. The Head and tail for being plastic seem OK. They're pretty easy to fix and the parts are relatively cheap - My average crashes have been around $10 or $20.

The last time a good friend of mine was up from San Diego he was able to fly mine and gave the setup his "blessing" (in otherwords told me it was very flyable and if I had problems they were "pilot related )

The things I did right away are:

Get more batteries and a good charger.

Replace the ESky rotor blades with something better. Mine didn't track very well at all when I switched blades tracking problems virtually went away. (I chose the Align 315's. I just put a set of 325's on, but haven't had a chance to spin it up yet).

Add a good BEC (Mine's the Castle Creations 10A)

I've heard reports from others that something like the CopterX head and tail make a world of difference. I haven't taken the plunge yet since I'm not even out of the hover stage. As soon as I can hover I'll probably order something.

I JUST acquired a DX7 - I'm thinking this will help more than my stock radio.

Personally.. I think along the lines of "the journey is more fun than the destination". The wrong helicopter is the one that you don't have fun with.

MGJONES,you are definately doing things the right way, keep on that track and you will do very well,as already said a good charger and batts and a good tx will do more for you than shiny cnc metal

if this is your plan, keep the BELTCP as stock/basic as possible,it will keep crash costs way down, thats the major attraction of the e-sky stuff,it flies well enough to have fun and learn and is cheap to own/buy/repair.when you get your skills a little farther along put your money into a nice REX(or maybe a Mini Titan )and you can have that as your "nice"heli.Just my opinion of course. Its just I have seen lots of guys really go all out upgrading and spending on an e-sky heli, trying to get it to be a high end heli, only to upgrade helis later on down the line.if you get hooked on helis you WILL get atleast one more heli

and if i can, this weekend i will make a video of myself performing the solo to Highwaystar,i dont want to ruin my 100% record of backing up ALL claims with video, and in a timely manner, not a year from now(cough cough )

Hey hbk2owner, I am from Monticello/ Indiane Beach. Do you guys ever come up this way? Maybe we could meet up sometime. I've got an Fg and I'm building an HPI 5b, they are fun to beat on! Are there any hobby shops in Indy that carry Esky parts?
