ok how many charger can charge the newer packs at 5c on a 6s5000 ?? ok yes there maybe 2 but at a decent price ?

ok i am thinking of making one. what kind of features are important to you ? i have a bantum 902, 250 watt with the basic programing. schulze make some really nice one but no us distrubitor and they cost a small mint. and the best one has 14s and 10 amp.

ther was a post a couple months ago, where the charger had a memory card with all the batt info on it(preprogramed prior) and u pop the card in and hook the batt up and pres one button and verify it and 1 more button and it charging. was very nice but think it was from over seas. Any one remember ?

One cool thing the Cellpro charges do is not ask how many cells you have. They do this by requiring a balance tap connection. I like this idea. I personally have no need to charge packs without have the balance plug attached. That simplifies things greatly for day to day use. Just plug and chug. Of course they shot themselves in the foot with their balance plug wiring and that is why I use and iCharger now. So the balance plug wiring needs to be straight forward, JST-XH style.

Another thing that sells the iChargers is the open ended balance board. They allow for 2x 4s charging for 8s packs made from 2 packs. Same with a pair of 5s packs. Hell you could charge a 7s packs made up of a 4s and 3s pack. All this is possible by not limiting what you can use on the boards and iCharger is the only one that does this.

well the 2 i was thinking of are the bantum 902 and the tp1010 but you right 6s no 3s almost

ok i see zero is right. ok nice features. Although charging through the balance tap @ 5 c may not cut it ? I like the way the bantum works with main tap for charging then the balancer drains through the balance connector. most balance wires are only 22guage and that not much copper there. but great way of cell count verification

No I did not mean charging through the balance tab, that would never work for the big batteries. I meant that you read the cell count through the balance tab to you don't have to input it. Hell have it update the screen when you plug it in so you know it is right before you start.

Why do you want to charge at 5C? 3C is quite enough if you ask me.

Anyway if you are to charge a 6S 5000mAh pack at 5C you will need to build a charger capable of putting out 630W!!
With such a charger it would be good if it also can handle 12S as it then would be possible to charger 12S 5000mAh at 2.5C whih is more what I would like to see.

I am today charging with schulze chargers. It is via there balancing tap possible to configure capacity of the pack and what type (LiPo/LiFe/Lion). This means you only have to set the desired chargerate (1C/2C) or what ever and the charger detects the rest so you can use autostart on the charger. Just connect power connector and balance tab and then it starts to charge!! I think this is a great feature!!

There are not many chargers on the market today that can handle 12S at any power so if you are to build a charger possible of handeling 12S and 600W power output I would buy one.

Better make sure the wiring and circuit box is good wherever you plan to charge. The "arc fault" circuit breakers that are now code in a lot of places don't hold up well to high rate charging. That's been a limiting factor for me. My chargers pull a little over 600w which shouldn't be a big deal but, somehow it is.

And 25 amps. Even if you found or built a charger to put out 630w what are you going to use to power it? Most household circuits are 15 amps maybe 20. Unless you run a dedicated 30 or 40 amp circuit from your electric box you're out of luck. Field charging? Better get one hefty generator if one even exists.

20A @ 13.8v = 276W
but
276W with 120v (US domestic supply?)= 2.3A required.
276W with 240v (UK domestic)= 1.15A required.

I think that's right isn't it? So a power supply capable of producing 13.8v and 20A doesn't really need much from the domestic supply...

or another way:-

domestic supply of 120v 20A could yield 2.4KW and 173A @ 13.8v

I am using a Cellpro 10s. You can charge up to 10 amps with this charger. I am charging 6s2650 Thunder power 45c batteries in 20 min at 6 amps only cause my power supply cannot hadle more than 25 amps.

You charge through the main plug, and balance plug with anything over 3 amps as the balance wire cannot handle anymore than about 3 amps.

If you not breaking it your not trying hard enough

Charging 6s5000mAh packs at 5C is going to require a charger capable of about ~630W output.

Building one won't be trivial.

1) I'd recommend taking a serious look at a CC/CV power supply to do the job.

2) Buy 3S packs and two Hyperion 720i NET 3 chargers and network them for 500W out. Or wait for the Super DUO that will be out in several months. It will be two 720i NET3 chargers in one physical box.

Also, consider how you're going to power this charger.
