I have a Tail glitch issue with my Heli. The heli is a 600 CF Belt drive. 401 gyro and matching servo, 600 mm CF blades. I have tried every thing I can think of from grounding the tail boom, Spraying anti static stuff on the belt making sure that the belt is good and tight. I have changed the rec, (Futaba 2.4 7ch). I tried my gyro from my LOGO 10 also a Futaba. Change the servo to the one from my Logo no change. I have a Copiot II, Bypassed it no change moved the ESC (Castle 85), By passed the voltage reg and went with a 4 cell 5 v pack No change.

Any Ideas let me know. Loosing hair fast.

Any thing will fly with enough Power..

Can you explain the glitch? Frequency, how far is the tail moving, etc?

What is your headspeed? Are you running your ESC in gov. mode?

Head speed around 1950 and in Gov Mode I have the castle set to 1850 but it is actually 1950. The glitch is moving the tail about 2 to 3 degrees ether way I can hold it no problem. Also tried with and without Heading Hold, Increased and decreased the gain. It has not piro right around. The glitch seems to very sharp meaning it is not slow but quite pronounced. and the TX is 2.4 Futaba Fasst. I had the same setup in my Century Swift 16 on No Probs.

Which gov. mode do you have it set to? High/ Low/ set RPM? I would either disable it or use set RPM and see if that fixes it.

Success!!! Thanks FlaG8r

As soon as you said in your first post about the Gov mode it all made sense. I am used to my Kontronics In my Mikado. I usually use Throttle curves with any other ESC. But since I have an Interface for my Castle I thought I would give it ago. Live an learn. Now I have to find a way to put back my hair in.

Again thanks

I turned the gov off and the wag went away. So I'm going to leave it that way and just use throttle curves.

Thanks again

You have to install V2.161 or higher firmware to get the governor to work correctly. It will work if you spend a little time getting the parameters tuned.

CC Tech support is excellent and can help you get it adjusted correctly.

Castle has a very recent update you 3.19 (2.18 firmware)you could try. I have a 600 esp (shaft drive tail)+ 401 and never had a happy tail until I dropped my servo arm ball to center distance to about 11 mm. and increased travel. Previously at 13.5mm. On my HV85 I am running governor on 3 speed set RPM. All my governed speeds are in the red with my gearing according to Castle program but I try and fly smooth for photography use and would not recommend for 3D use wear large current changes occur. My HV85 settings are governor 15Gain, 4 on headspeed change rate, Head speeds 1950, 1980, 2000 Low motor timing, PWM rate 8 KHZ. This is with the 650L motor. This has made my tail very smooth except for this one intermittant glitch that I can' get rid of. I had posted the following to the AP section of this forum. Movie link included glitch at 1:27.

I have an intermittant glitch when pushing in alot of collective. I have replaced the gyro and servo. I have replaced the stock Align speed control when after about 25 flights it smoked. Replaced with a Castle 85HV. This problem has occured with both speed controls. I don't think it is static electricity, at least from the tail as it is shaft drive. It is an Align 600ESP stock except with Castle speed control. Rig is additional 1 pound. Here is a link to video where it occurs at about 1:27. I left sound in if that helps.

Anyone else have this problem. Thanks.

Don’t use 2.18 Firmware

Castle has a serious error in the 2.18 firmware that may cause the motor to stop in flight and has caused several motor and ESC burnouts. If you read the other forums you will find that information.

The actual problem is that the ESC can loose sync with the motor in flight at high power.

CC is aware of the problem and is scrambling to get it fixed. Right now 2.16 (2.161 on phoenix) is the highest firmware that is save to use. They said that they should have new firmware in a few weeks.

Great to know about the firmware, as I updated the firmware the same time I change the gov settings. Now I find out that 2.18 has a problem. I guess it is better to find now then in the air.

Just go back to 2.16 – the governor in that version works ok but the new version (out in a few weeks) is suppose to have a better governor.
