On my logo 500 today in 30F weather my landing gear shattered on a normal auto, causing a lot of damage.

It was a normal auto and descent, until it touched, then the gear just shattered. They were not tensioned when they left for flight and ive flown with gear last year down to -30F(hundreds of flights).

These are my first actual mikado gear "in the cold" though....are these brittle or what?!~?>!!

which ones, the stock narrow ones, or the new wider low ones?? I did have a few sets of the narrow ones on some harder landings, switched to the beefier ones myself.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Theyre the narrows, and the more ive thought about it, I dont have cause for concern.
Ive flown in the cold numerous times, these must have been stressed from my great summer of flying. They did their job, and now its time to move on to wider gear it sounds like.

Had the same issue.. I ended up getting the low profile gear from helidirect and haven't looked back. They flex a little but they have held up quite well for my auto training.

Landing skids

All of the mikado struts are pretty brittle and break easy.

I haven't found any lightweight or small gear that work all that much better though...

I myself think the Outrage 550 landing gear or the vibe 50 landing gear are stronger though...and both look better than the stock set..

but even these break somewhat easily in a hard landing..
