My wife and I decided that we no longer needed a phone in the house about 7 or 8 years ago. We each had cell phones and the home phone was just an expense we did not need. For some reason, where we live now we sometimes lose cell coverage for a day or two at a time, so we decided to get a home phone again, this time through the cable company. Installed last Friday. We are yet to use it for anything, we have not given the number to any family members, or anyone else for that matter. Yet come Monday we are already on a telemarketing list and start getting sales calls. Enough to drive you crazy.

Gun control is like fighting drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to buy cars.

Dropped our home phone when we moved to Ohio. All I have is Verizon as well. The really good part is our internet provider is AT&T (although I'd rather have Verizon) and they DO NOT need a phone service hooked up to deliver their highest speed DSL but it still comes through the actual phone line. Lovin' it!

Well aparently it depends on the area and how new the phone lines/cables are. When I signed up I just thought in general you had to have phone service but the CSR said she had to check on something, when she came back on the line she said my line was eligible to have DSL with no phone.

Someone is feeding you a line of garbage. I have lots of friends here that have att dsl and no phone. It costs 5 or 6 dollars per month more then having the phone for the dsl service.

I have a house phone I do not get telemarketers etc go and register the phone number on the do not call lists I did that and no more calls. Pretty simple if you ask me. I was getting lots of calls at first with the new number when we moved but the first day on the do not call list and about 30 days later no more. Only 3 of my friends have my home number I do not care to give it out to most people. Some one wants to talk to me bad enough they can come over.
