How big and how much does something like that run? Does it power a controller to charger the battery or is it hooked directly to the deep cycle battery?

Solar panel? Wow I never thought of that one, how many amps at 12volts does one of those things put out?

Just like to add, where did you get it? Also, I routinely pull 600 to 700 watts while charging. What are the limitations?

my 110watt pannel is hooked directly to my deep cycle and gives up to 8 amps. it is about 2.5' by 5' you can keep one 6s 5k battery charging at one c all day without taking anything out of the deep cycle. however I fluctuate it from up to two 6s 5k packs and a few 3s 2200 packs to nothing on it throughout the day and when there is nothing charging the solar pannel is just recharging the deep cycle.

if you have a 90 electric and you have more than 2 sets of batts and fly it a lot this system would probably not be enough.

Well the solar panel idea is very impressive I was going to buy a noisey eco unfriendly generator but your ideas means that I can be truely green and stick my nose in the air at those who are not.
Would you be able to send me a link to one of these panels that you use?

Kits are available on eBay that include the various components you'll need, excluding the deep cycle battery. This would certainly put you in the catagory of early adopter. Just do a quick search. You'll also note that these systems are completely scalable, meaning you can go as far as you want.

800 W, $109 Harbor Freight generator. It is NOT noisy at ALL. Runs like a watch. I set it up over behind the flight line, and you can't even hear it. Entirely comfortable running my 43 amp power supply driving two 106B+ chargers running at once and charging at 1C.

Ben, you may want to double the owner's manual for that generator. If it's the one I'm thinking of it's not designed to power sensitive electronic equipment. It's purely for powering resistive type loads (e.g., lights, etc.)

Inverter type generators are used to power electronic equipment.

The manual is available on-line and here's what it says on page 6:

CAUTION: 10. This generator is not intended to power sensitive electronic equipment* without the addition of an appropriate line conditioner and surge protector (both not included). Sensitive electronic equipment should be operated on approved inverter type generators or pure sine wave generators.

*Sensitive electronic equipment includes, but is not limited to, audio/video equipment, some television sets, computers, and printers.

Noted now and when I bought the generator.

Some research suggests that a simple power supply is relatively low-down on the "sensitive electronics" totem pole. The worst the chargers themselves could ever see is a variance in their 13V DC supply, but they'll tolerate anything from 12-15 V. I'd never try to run a computer or anything like that on such a generator. This thing exists to charge batteries and nothing more.
