Just my view but if you don't trust the transaction enough to send as a gift then perhaps you should look at an escrow or some such. I think the gift type payment is a good idea for those that you do trust. My last payment to a trusted online hobbyshop was done as a gift so they wouldn't have to eat another 3% on an already steeply discounted item.

I can understand sending paypal as a gift to a retailer but I don't think I would want to send it that way to an individual. Then you take full responsibilty and can't go back on the seller or the credit card company if there is a problem. To many risks for me.
