Works great in my Vario Acrobatic. Changed from the Futaba 401 with great success. Just go for it.

Works great on my Spectra-G. Use Zeal gel tape instead of the foam pad that's supplied with the gyro. The strap pictured is not tight and is only there for added protection against the gyro falling off.

Drifting of the tail can occur if the gyro picks up too much vibration. The zeal tape eliminates this.

A friend of mine loaned me a brand new Spartan to try on my Spectra-G. I assume I can use the existing 9256 I have been running with my 611. Let me look around the forums to see if that gyro/servo combination has been used.

I still have that slight bit of tail twitch or wag I would like to get out of it. Yes, I can live with it but since I have a few options to experiment with I might as well give it a shot.

Please keep us posted on how the Spectra works with the Spartan gyro. I have a tail wag I just can't get rid of and was considering a Spartan gyro myself. Complete flight report please!

Since twitches/oscillation are a product of vibration,(or a very tight tali link) or a to high gain setting

Have you tried to increase the deadband a little. Nice spartan feature, not that it has anything to do with the vibs in the heli, but if your tali pitch stick, don`t hit the absolut 0 point every time, when the stick is in center, that can cause the gyro to loose
the point of 0, witch is the base for running a gyro i HH.
The increasing of the deadband only helps if we are talking drift,
or a wag to one or the other side.

Using a strap over the gyro like CNCjunkie did with his Fut 520, worked for me, on my spectra with a jr 770

Excal, I have a Spartan mounted on my Predator (took the vstabi off) and no wag or drift. I used the thin foam tape to mount the metal plate to the gyro and then Zeal Gel Tape to mount to the heli.

I can't see there being any difference if it were mounted on a Spectra-G. It's an excellent gyro.

What gyro is on your Spectra? Does the tail on the Spectra twitch at all? Can you try to put the Spartan on the Spectra and see if its any better? I would like to try one but don't want to buy it and find out its not much different than my 611. I'm using a BLS251 servo for my 611, does that work with the Spartan?

I currently have the GY520 on the G. I have a slight vibration in the heli I'm working on eliminating which does make the tail move a little, but I think it's rotor blade balance and not the gyro. I have a Koll Rotor Pro on order, since from reading, it's the best balancer.

I don't use the gyro menu and set end points on Aux2 for the gyro. I initially set it to 35 on the end points, but in a fast descent, the tail would oscillate violently, so I lowered it down to 25 and now it seems happy that way.

Man, I wish I could help you out on your request. I spend a huge amount of time routing and securing my wires on all my heli's. I would have to remove the Spartan from my Pred and the 520 from the G, which is just too painful of a thought. ok, ok, I'm a bit lazy. There, I said it. Maybe if I get a wild hair, I'll do it. There must be someone out there using a Spartan on a Spectra-G.

I'm taking the Pred out today if the weather cooperates. I'm just waiting for the sun to come up.

The BLS251 works great with the Spartan. I had that setup in my LOGO 600 before I converted it to FBL with the vstabi. The same Spartan gyro is now on my Ped. and the tail doesn't twitch, drift or wag.

If you do go with the Spartan, make sure you use the metal plate that comes with it. The plate adds mass to the gyro to make vibration dampening more effective. The gyro is very lite.

Thanks for the info CNC. I can't blame you for not wanting to tear apart your harnesses to change out the gyro in the Spectra. I spend a lot of time on mine as well and hate it whenever I have to change something. Hopefully somebody will chime in with Spartan/Spectra combo.

Spartan and Gasser

I have fitted both my gassers with Spartan Gyro's. It is the only way to go in my opinion. You can use any servo.
As the web states

Configuration
The built in configuration routine allows adjustment of individual left and right endpoints, direction reversing and servo type selection. In addition the ds760 can be connected to a personal computer or Pocket PC offering access to more advanced parameters including yaw acceleration, deceleration, stop gain and many more. Additionally the upcoming detachable display offers quick access to all configuration parameters.

Compatibility
Don’t let your gyro restrict your choices. Whether you fly a 2.4GHz, PCM or PPM/FM radio system, use NiCDs or LiPo receiver battery, or want to use a 760uSec servo the ds760 will be happy to work with any combination you pick. In fact it can work direct from a 2S LiPo battery making it ready for the next generation of 7.4V servos.

The ds760 supports for all modern digital servos including Futaba S9251 / S9253 / S9254 / S9256 / S9257 / S9650 / S3153 / S3154 / BLS251, JR 8900G / 3400G / 2700G / 8700G / 810G, Sanwa ERG-WRX, Airtronics 94758 / 94761, Hitec 5925MG / 6965HB, Robbe FS61BB, LogicTech 3100G / 6100G, Sky HDS-577 / HDS-877. This list is not exhaustive.

Features
Measuring a mere 28.4mm square and 12mm tall (1.1 x 1.1 x 0.5 inch) and weighing just 16 grams, the ds760 is without a doubt the smallest high performance gyro on the market. The single unit and lightweight design together with adaptive control algorithms offer optimal performance for your helicopter whether you fly a miniature Hurricane 200 or large 90 size nitro machine.

In my experience the ds720 is by far the best gyro I have had. I cannot make it "let go" in any respect. It is not as fussy about vibration and has eliminated the tail kick and drifting that I struggled to overcome with the gy611 it replaced.

The strange thing I found was that the 601 and 611 perform faultlessly on my nitro birds but never inspired confidence on my gassers and the 401 was fine for learning/sport flying but I could make it Let go and swap ends all the time when learning 3d.

What is the main difference between the DS760 described in your post and the DS720 that you have been using? Is there a significant cost or performance difference? Looks like I need to do some research, but any info you can provide would be appreciated - thanks.

Spartan on Spectra

I swapped out the 611 for a Spartan on my Spectra over the weekend. Still using the same 9256 servo until a new BLS251 shows up soon. All in all I think that the Spartan did in fact show an improvement in reducing the amount of tail twitch I have been experiencing. It is not completely 100% gone but I was definitely able to tell a pretty good improvement. Based on my experience and knowledge gained from Raja & the RR forum I seriously doubt that all 100% of tail twitch could ever be eliminated. Too many variables to consider in my opinion. And maybe a slight twitch is inherent in the beast of a gasser. I am quite certain others may very well debate this and I will be the first to admit I am the farthest thing from a gasser expert!

I had a friend of mine, Parker Hall (and if you 3D guys haven't heard of him yet just be patient, he is another real deal) put it through a few of the proposed FAI Schedule P maneuvers. Several of these include some pretty good backwards flight and the Spartan handled it with no problem.

For what it's worth I am running a Hanson G260, Tempest 3D head, Zimmerman side mount, Jewel, 9252, GV1/Stator Gator, MAH 710 blades and 105 tails. I am not a 3D guy at all so just good solid stable flying is what I am after. Scale-like if you will. That way any sort of tail bobble is detectable. I will let you know how it goes once I get the BLS251 servo installed.
