Got the blues when I found out that this little econonmy vehicle, Honday 2009 Civic Sedan that was suppose to save me $$ in gas and maintenance cannot accomodate my heli/airplane needs.

Any advice on a trailer that I can tow and not ruin the tranny / vehicle warranty and be able to haul the hobby. Also, when towing, the vehicle should not be on over drive.

Here's a 5' x 8' Interstate Victory trailer that weighs 800 lbs.

Thanks

I would contact your Honda dealer to be sure of its capability.

there are lighter trailers out there but you also have to consider the weight of the contents it adds up faster than you could ever imagine

Not to mention the frontal area. That's a lot of drag.

Get a rack and case for the roof, that way you don't have to worry about storing a trailer and having to hook it up before you leave.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

800 pounds is WAYYYYYYY too much for that civic....

Max towing capacity is about 1000 pounds I believe. But count yourself as the driver and you are there with no passengers. Then count drag which could be several hundred pounds with that trailer.

you should go for the little uhaul style trailer for cargo....something like this but cheaper of course

http://www.letsgoaero.com/ProductDetail.asp?Pid=29

tongue wt 25 pounds!

empty wt 275, max cargo 700.

I have a 5x10 trailer and it kicks my infinity qx56 airbags on when hitched empty to give you an example...i am certain an 800 pound 5x8 trailer will bottom your civics suspension (or at least when you sit inside!)

Yes, but I had a hard time with the TT scales. Couldn't get one to fit through the trunk. Had the scale on the back seat towards the front and it was difficult.

Love the car but totally hate it for the hobby.

I Built this with one of those harbour frieght trailers. It only cost me about 400$ and I pulled it all over CA with my 2003 ford focus with no problems.

I did check the U-haul and they quote that the civic should be able to pull a 5 x 8 trailer up to 2k pounds. It seems high but I'll double check that again with another employee.

The dealer said that max is 1K pounds but wanted to know from you die hard heli haulers that have used a small car to haul your helis.

Can't help much with the sedan but I bought a '96 Saturn wagon that gets the same mileage as a civic but holds 3-4 heli's. don't know if it'd be less weight but I've seen someone take an old pop-up camper gut it and turn it into a hobby hauler. The advantage is when you shut the lid down it's not very tall so you won't be dragging a big box through the air. May also be able to hook up the electric brakes which would make a much safer tow, assuming it has electric brakes.

.. P-gas, T700, V50c/u, R50T, T4/250 and a Cricket ..

STR8HUCKIN,

What size is that plane? Is the length less than 8' from tail to spinner?

google tow capacity for that model. It should at least be able to handle 1000 lbs...Just don't drive like you're racing.
