I noticed in the manual it says to apply silicone glue to the outside of the the TT bearing holders before inserting in the boom so the bearing housing cannot spin in the boom. Is this a necessary step as it seem to me most of the glue would be smeared throughout the boom when the TT is insertd. Also servicing the TT would be difficult also if the TT is now glued in the boom.
Any opinions on how necessary this step is would be appreciated
Regard
Simon

Rap 90 torque tube bearings

cd5,
I have 2 Raptor 90's. I've never had a problem NOT using silicone on the bearing housings. When I built my first 90. I followed the suggestion of siliconing. When I did my first boom replacement. I found the bearings came out just as easyly as if there were no silicome on them. Besides the bearing housings are a very tight fit.
I hope this is of some small help.
Regards

+1 I thought about this when I put my 90 together, but I decided not to use anything on them. This is almost 2 years ago and I changed the boom once due to a small crash, got a small bend in it. Never had any issues with it, always worked like a charme

But the Raptor wasn't dead!:):):)

I also have never used silicone glue and have never had a problem.

The tail drive in the 90 seams to last a very long time and never gives me any problems. I lube the bearings when new and have never done anything to them for several hundred flights.

too tight.

How in the world are you guys getting your bearings in the boom without trimming the edges. I have to carefully trim the outer edges of mine to get them to slide in nice and snug. Otherwise I can't get them in at all.

heat the bearing housing with a hair dryer.the housing has 4 slits on it. compress the top and bottom ones yourself, get someone else to compress the side walls then push it in to get it started with your spare hand. I also sprayed the inside of the boom with some silicone lube spray so it could slide in.Very easy doing it this way! Hope this helps.

Do NOT trim the bearing holder as that will make it too loose. If it spins it will cut the boom in half.

Just start them at a slight angle and press in on the sides until you get them started. They will go in but they are supposed to be a very tight fit.

I squeeze the the edges of the bearing holders in my fingers and hold them for a few seconds. Then I put them in quickly before they completely return to the original shape. No glue is needed and definitely do not trim them or failure will occur.
