My Posts This: Topic Forum | I was having erratic and unpredictable tail wag. I lowered the gain to the point that when I punched out the tail would slide right/nose left. Incidentaly the wag always initiated to nose left, then would correct. My gain was at 37 on futaba 401/9650 tail servo. I put chinese weights on and lowered gain to 20 and voila..it worked, and the tail is rock solid!!!
The interesting thing is. That it wasn't wagging like it had a gain issue (like a fish back and forth). I tried changing belts thinking I had some stipped belt teeth. Changed tail to microheli tail, thinking I had slop in the tail. I also noticed the wag was worse/ more violent when I had more throw on the servo programed by the transmitter.
I have crashed/rebuilt this heli at least 10 times and I would just replace the parts that broke. The only functional thing that changed was that the tail servo rod that goes to the tail lost the little supports that keep it from bowing. I was down to just the one that holds the horizontal stabilizer in place. I think there may have been some bowing of the rod causing intermittent blow back of the tail rotor blades even at hover. With the weight mod, it doesn't require as much force from the tail servo to the tail to achieve the correct tail rotor pitch so the rod doesn't bend like it used to. Anyway, just a theory that may help someone else with goofy acting tail.
Tail weight mod done with align ball links screwed into 1/16 drilled holes in the blade grips. The aluminum is softer than screws so they self taped. No jig used, just free handed it. Works great! |
