I have a well used 91st that I had been flying in one of my Fury Extremes. I pulled it out to put in my new Trex 700. Since the swap, it refuses to transition from idle. It will idle smoothly for quite a while but as soon as I try to pick up the throttle it bogs and dies. It sounds like it is loading up but I'm not positive. If I leave the glo starter on it and spool it up, I can idle it down, remove the glo starter and it usually will get through enough to spool up again. I have tried going both ways on all three needles but not making much difference. I keep going back to factory on the mid and high to try again. I don't know where the low needle should be according to factory setting. It only wants to idle at about half turn out.

Any suggestions?
Thanks, Matt

Sounds like you need a hotter plug! I use Enya #3's on all of my helis to prevent this problem.

Try leaning out your low needle just a tad ..... The plug may be getting a little wet at idle.

I've had the idle down as low as 1/4 turn. Any lower it won't start or run. Any idea where the idle needle should be?

How high is your idle? If your idle is too low, the plug may cool down during extended idle periods.

As far as the low needle, adjust it so that the engine transitions quickly and smoothly from idle to full throttle.

New plug was going to be next on my list. I had ran out and new ones just came in this evening. I had swapped one out of one of my other 91s but it had been in that heli at least all of this year maybe even all last year. I won't get a chance to fly again till the weekend. I'll update then.

I got a chance to fly last night. The new plug helped but it's still not right. It's right at quarter stick that it goes flat and wants to die out. I keep thinking it has to be the mid range needle but I've tried both richer and leaner but it doesn't fix the problem.

Had a similar problem once before and it ended up being a clogged needle valve. Hookup the carb, after you remove it from the engine, to an air source of about 20 PSI. While applying the air pressure, slowly cycle the throttle from idle to full a few times. Listen to the airflow, and you can see if that is the issue (you can actually hear the airflow).

I actually use a Robart air pump when I do this

You can perform the clearing with the carb installed, but the trash will end up in your engine if you do!

If you put a little alcohol into the fuel line before applying the pressure, it will make the cleaning a little more effective and quicker! I like to use grain alcohol for this whenever possible as it works a bit faster than rubbing alcohol.

Try opening the idle needle until it acts correct.

This is from Ron's website. Something to look into!!! Helped me out with idle issue.

My YS engine used to start very easy, but now it's hard to turn over and floods all the time.

If you've had the engine a while, it might be time to flush out the muffler. As time goes on, oil will accumulate in the muffler and can even run into your engine, causing it to hydrolock. Just pour some alcohol into the muffler, plug the outlets and give it a good shake. Drain it for a while then reinstall it.

This is true of any two stroke engine, but it's more prevalent in the YS engines.

WHAT!! Try this credit card!!!

I have a YS 91 I bought used. It does the same thing if I pinch the fuel line to kill it at the end of the day. I now disconnect the fuel line and run it dry. The pump and carb seem to gum up. I fixed the gumming by removing the hover needle and fuel line to the pump. Then back flush the carb and fuel pump with fuel using a small squeeze bulb, the throttle must be 1/2 open for the flush to flow through the carb.
