Most likely you had a bad refraction and exam.

Get thee to an ophthalmologic teaching center, ask the DEPARTMENT
CHAIRMAN for a greatest guy on staff referral, and I am confident
you will shocked by how great the outcome can be.

best

I've needed corrective lenses my entire life, so be glad you have had good vision as long as you have.

Just get contacts or glasses and keep going. It's not that bad....

44 and just got readers last fall. I just did my eye exam for my 1st class medical (pilot) and JUST made 20/20 up close. It's a pain in the a@# to work on the real small heli stuff and soldering small wires.

I used to be the young guy at work that could help the old guys see things. Now I'm the guy trying to read the small print. I don't think I pissed off any old guys so I'm hoping karma will come my way when it gets worse.

You younger guys appreciate your eyesight while you got it.

38 and my eyes aren't what they used to be . I've noticed it while at my job . . Part of the game of life I guess .

But I choose to not let that hamper my ability to pile one in from time to time .

My eye Doc is amazed that at 61 I can still read the fine print on my Viagra prescription bottle and don't need reading glasses at all

But I did tell him I fly RC and need all the Eagle vision I can get.

Really dialed me into a pair of "flying glasses" that helps when my eyes are tired.

Now I even use them when driving at the end of the day at night.

Get a good Doc to check your vision, it does help!

Hi guys

I have been wearing glasses/contact lenses for many, many years.

Whenever i notice my heli flying is not improying and i get disorientated, i go get new glasses...... 10% boost in my flying immediatly......

The biggest issue with people who don´t where glasses´, is to take the step and get a pair.....for people who do where glasses, getting a new pair is no issue.....

Another simple test is use, is to try read the car number plates of approaching traffic. At 120km/h...giving an approach speed of 240km/h. If your eyes are crap, you will have very little time to see the numbers...... Your brain will usually process the number well after it has passed you.

Regards
Paul

Over 50, wearing glasses for the last 10 years, but I now have a new problem. I have 'floaters' in both eyes. Started in my left eye first. These are small particles which move around inside the eye and when they happen to get in the view, any small object I look at is blurred, as if I am looking through dirty glass, most noticeable when looking at a bright background, such as the sky or a computer monitor. For this reason I can't let the heli go too far away or I will lose orientation. I crashed once because of this and had many lucky escapes.

Worn glasses since my late 30's, what amazes me is the number of times I hear at the field " I'll have to get glasses".

I have the same issue... depth perception sucks with glasses. Focus sucks without.

I hate glasses. I lose them daily.

I was looking into surgery. My Dr. said the only way for me to get rid of glasses is implants. $8000

I have been wearing glasses since I was 40 years old. I will never forget when I got the glasses and put them on for the first time, it was like some one turned on a new set of eyes for me. About six years ago I had lasik done, .
let me tell you it was the best money I have ever spent. They wanted to fix one eye for distance and one eye for close up, but I didn't go that way knowing that I wanted the best distance eyesight that I could get. I still wear readers for colse up work, but allin all it has worked out great for me,...oh I just turned 62 last month.
I will tell you what can help you guys and that is get your bird decked out in bright colors it helps.

This reminds me of yesterday's 6PM Small night flight... I forgot my glasses and couldnt see SH*T 5 feet away...

8 Feet away the heli looked the same in all orientations

Jeez, imagine if glasses were never invented!!

Hootowl,
I paid only $1200 for my lasik, I guess that I was lucky, I must not have been too far gone.

One thing that helps me a little is to also trust my last inputs to tell me what the Heli should be doing.

My brain tells me she never changes direction but my eyes trick me into thinking she does = Crash

I've worn glasses or contacts most of my almost 60 years. I've been flying RC for over 40 years and helis the last 20. I now do AP with a heli and need the best vision I can get.

I wear mono-vision contacts that is a compromise for up-close and distance. I told my Doc about my need for distance when flying. He wrote me a RX for another strength lens for one of my eyes.

Now, when I'm going flying, I move my "normal" stronger lens to my weaker eye and put the "new" strongest lens in my other for "eagle vision"

Works for me.
