I have been thinking of buying a Pantera since I read the review in rcheli. I had a Freya that I severley crashed and don't believe it is worth fixing due to the extent of the damage. I do have all the electronics, YS91 engine and pipe from the Freya that I would like to put in a Pantera. What would I need besides the heli kit to put a 90 size engine in this heli? And what would be the cost? Thanks for the input.

Since you have the equipment for a 90 class ship, I would recommend finding a good 90 class airframe in the classifieds. There is no substitute for the larger blades a 90 swings, the rotor area/weight ratio (AKA disc loading) is better with the bigger ships.

The Pantera is great bird, but unless you fly well I would not put a 91 in it. The conversion is not a direct drop in, you need to tinker with it a bit to get it working right.

If you can fly well, and do not mind fitting the bigger motor go for it. They are simple to work on and fly great, and getting two of them of $300 is even better.

Get the Pantera and put in a OS 50 Hyper with a tuned pipe.
Once you get the rush, then get the BBC upgrade and put your big engine in the ship.
I have a few hypers and pipes sitting around if you need one.

As Petmotel and others have said, a 50 and a 90 are two different critters in their feel, and a 50 with a 91 is different from either. E.g. being neither an ordinary 50 with a 50, nor possesed of the feel of a 91, it's quite unique.

Anyway, petmotel wrote a very good description of what's involved in putting a 91 into the Pantera (somewhere here on RR) and both be and billm have Panteras XS conversions (with big block engines - petmotel, have you still got yours?). Meanwhile, Mr. Hillbilly is somewhat unique in having the only Pantera XS with a ducted fan engine - compared to the 3.4 hp or a run of the mill 91, a DF engine is close to 5 horsepower (and a ordinary OS 50SX Hyper is 1.9 and the new 55HZ Hyper is 2.1). Consequently, he has a unique viewpoint as well. Any of these fellows can give you advice of the pure mechanics of getting it installed.

Alternatively, call me 10-6 eastern at 407-302-3361 and I can discuss with you what's involved. I don't go out of my way to offer the XS conversion so expect some dissuading on my part but if you have the skills to accomplish it successfully that's another story. This is 'not' a product for ordinary modelers by any stretch.

The BBC kit that turns a Pantera into a Pantera XS was around 60-70$ when I got it over a year ago. A new Pantera kit is cheap and you can find some for next to nothing in the classified. I used a "modest" OS61 and ended up with something a bit punchier than my Raptor with a TT53.
Overall the conversion was pretty straightforward, you only need to dremel the chassis a little, nothing major, really. The process to remove/remount the engine changes a bit too, as (at least with mine) the carb has to be removed and the bottom muffler screw must be on the engine before you mount it.

That is what I wanted to know, whether it was a drop in package. I think I will just sell the ys91 and freya parts and be done with it. Thanks for the feedback.

I would keep the 91 in your hip pocket.
You already spent the money and you know the history of the engine.
When your ready, The 91 mod price is just the upgrade of hardware.

The conversion is not that hard, but nothing too major, just trim a part here and there, test fit, repeat. If you do try this make sure you do not run it without a governor. Also make sure you do the Lerch gear change so you do not over rev the motor.
