Where are you guys flying? I go out to the FRCM field off of FWY 41 and Ave 12 occasionally. I have heard of a few people flying around town, are you guys out at open lots or parks?

I'm a member of FRCM and flew there a lot until about 10 years ago. Just renewed my membership, but haven't flown there this year yet. Sometimes I fly at Willow and Behymer in Clovis. A lot of electrics, but nitro is okay. Mostly 2.4ghz, but 72mhz and anything else is okay, but freq control yourself. Can only fly there on weekends and not weekdays per school administration. They fly in the back southwest corner of the parking lot and overfly that great big grass field. Great bunch of guys and very diverse interests in RC, except one guy who thinks he is the Grand Poopah and trys to tell everyone what to do. Ignore him. You must check it out. You'll like it.

Yep... this is where I go occasionally. However, I've stopped by there on more than one occasion just to see who's out and flying and I have yet to see a heli. The times I've been there its always planks. Hash, If I'm not mistaken I believe we've met when I was hanging out at the company's field with my 600N. I got it supersized and have the 700N now but haven't flown at that field in a while. Hope to run into some of you guys in the near future.

I wasn't aware of Willow/Behymer... I have been out to Willow/International and there are a lot of electric planes there as well.

JetFire, Yea man! I was wondering what happened to you... Haven't seen you fly there in quite a while. I got my Cypher 3D dialed in a little better and I am itching to fly the Fury some more.

I know there must be quite a few Heli guys around town, kind of depressing being the ONLY heli guy when I go places!

Hash,
It's the same place. Helis are welcomed. There are stray heli flyers in Fresno. Always have been. I used to fly where Pelco is before any buildings were built and the Clovis PD would chase me out. I joined the FRCM in 1985 and they just harassed me because I flew helis. Most of those guys have died. The present leadership are cool and welcome any aspect of RC aircraft. I've been busy, but will fly at the Ave 12 site more next year. If you're interested in flying there sometime with another heli flyer, PM me.

Heli Pilots in Fresn/Clovis?!?!

Hello,

I have been looking for some heli pilots in the area but haven't had much luck except for a couple of guys that are to afraid to fly their birds. I have been flying by myself, which isn't much fun, and having my girlfriend shoot video so I can post it and get people in the area interested in flying. I heard that people were flying at Buchanan High School but have checked a few times and never seen anyone flying. You guys fly at Willow and International (at the new college)? It would be great to come fly with you guys, does any one have plans to fly there this weekend?

Possibly.... to knock the dust off my 700N and to make a presence that Helis still rule . Plank guys normally fly in the morning and the field is usually open for us in the afternoon. I'm not sure if it was intentionally setup this way because I don't frequent there but this is what I've noticed. The only downside of that is that the sun sets on the same side facing the flightline and it tends to effect orientation. Perhaps this has something to do with it. In the past, I've only flew there with a buddy of mine that I haven't heard from in a while and never by myself yet. Other than him, I haven't seen anyone else. I've met pilots in the area but haven't actually seen any of them fly. I'll shoot you a PM if I can make it.

Flying this weekend

Okay I will check back later to see in anyone is going to fly. I also heard about a place in Visalia that you have to have your AMA membership (I think $35/year) to fly there. It was a fellow pilot (well he flys planes) that told me about this place. He said on Saturday mornings there is a guy that opens the gate and a bunch of guys go fly there. He said there are a bunch of heli pilots also. He has seen me fly and said that these guys are doing some crazy 3D maneuvers. I want to head out there one Saturday before the weather gets to bad. I hope that one of you guys is flying this weekend as I am going to head over to Willow and International tomorrow.

I fly at M/B sometimes. I found the place before it was even paved. It pretty much exploded to the northeast side of town place to fly. Theres one guy out there that insists on flying his giant scale gasser. He will probably get the place closed down for everyone since his plane could be heard over a mile away...somebody's bound to b!tch. The guy used to fly at Fowler/Shields when there were no buildings and he was a moron then too. Some things never change. Anyone going to fly this Sunday (the 15th)?

It's been two years since I've flown my helis. Maybe this spring I'll knock the dust off of em and go fly.

I hope I remember how to fly.

I went out to Willow and International this afternoon. No one was flying but i did ask some one if I was in the right place and I was. So I plan on heading out there tomorrow. Hope to see some of you there.

I'll head out to Willow/International but as far as I know there is no Nitro/Gas powered aircraft allowed. I plan on flying some today at Herndon/Fowler. I went out there yesterday at 3:30pm and flew a couple tanks until the Gyro tape started coming loose and the tail kicked!

I'll bring the Cypher 3D out to Willow/International and play around though.

You can fly nitro at Willow. It is primarily an electric field, but don't fly a nitro so as to annoy anyone. I've flown nitro helis oly there and no one complained or suggested I needed to do something about my or my buddies .90 size nitros. Heli mufflers are generallly quieter than plank type except 4-stroke Pattern with pipes.
Just be courteous and friendly and they will welcome you.

Willow and International

I had a very good time with everyone out at willow and international today. Awesome group of guys. All differnet types of air planes. Very fun. Thank you Hash for showing up out there. It was cool being the only guys flying helis. That MA Fury looked great and the custom gear on the 450 was nice. Your plane looked very good and I will see if I can find one ready to go. It was very smooth and fun to watch. Thanks to every one for being so nice and making myself and Lacey feel so welcome. Look forward to flying with you guys again!

There is nobody in charge out there to say what flys and what doesnt. It's just a common sense thing. I've flown nitro helis out there PLENTY of times. I dont feel anyone from the surrounding neighborhoods will complain about that. It's the giant scale crap that's obnoxiously loud that might draw complaints and if for any reason it gets away from that fool who flys it...it will be over for everyone.
