Hey everyone, could use your help.

I've never been to IRCHA. My fiance and I are planning to attend this year. We wish to reserve a hotel for the stay. We'll be wanting to check in on the 8th and check out on the 15th. We want to be there for the whole time.

I've been using priceline, orbitz, ETC to look for a hotel but what concerns me are some of the user reviews as well as the areas. A lot of sites are rating the areas around Muncie as not the best places to be.

Help me please! Recommend me a hotel to stay at! I do NOT want to be spending 6 or 7 hundred dollars. I'd say 500 is my MAX. I'm looking for a place to sleep that has internet access (wireless or wired is fine)and preferably a breakfast bar. I just don't know what areas I should stay away from or not.

Thanks in advance. Maybe this thread can help others who are looking to do the same.

Regards, Brandon

The IRCHA website has a list of area hotels. That is what I used last time. We ended up staying at the DaysInn for 50 or so a night I believe.

Ooo that's not bad. 50 a night is what I would prefer honestly. I hope I can get this all settled because I really want to see this and also meet new people from here and from all around.

Go to ircha.org click on Jamboree 2010, then under the menu button will be a "hotels" button with names and numbers.

The Hampton is New, The Comfort INN is new, and Holiday Inn Express is in good condition & all 3 offer the amenities you wanted.

I can not speak for the other hotels as I have not stayed in any of them.

Hotel

I have stayed at Lee's Inn for 5 years for under $60 a night and that includes breakfast. Not the fancyist (3 star?)but has always been clean. They also have a pool if you are interested in that.

Most of the hotels, Days Inn, Signature, Fairfield, COmfort Suites, HI Express are all across the street from Ball State and you can't go wrong with any of them. Make reservations NOW. They will fill up soon. You are on the main drag in Muncie and only about 10 minutes from the flying site.

I have submitted to get a group rate for at least 20 rooms. As soon as I get a response, I will post the info here for reservations at a group rate, so it will be cheaper.

Signature Inn is where the action is.
You will find many top pilots hang out at the parking lot across from Signature Inn at night trying to crash one into the light poles.

We missed that this year because we stayed in our trailer.

As far as group rates go, check with each hotel on their AMA rate. Some do have a special rate for AMA members, but not all of them.

On the Signature, used to be the place to stay. I think they still have the free popcorn in the lobby. But, if it rains, don't park in the front lot. A couple of years ago when Muncie got that horrible downpour, the Signature parking lot was under over a foot of water and seeping in thru the front door. All I remember seeing was a brand new Mustang with water up to the middle of the door.

The Fairfield is by far one of the nicest places to stay at. And if you request the AMA rate it is only $79.99 a night. The Signature was pretty run down the last time I was there. The rooms were kinda smelly. Just my opinion though...

Fairfield has my vote!

I stayed at the Signature this year and I agree , the rooms are not up to it. They are pretty run down. I stayed at the Lee's Inn last year and it was kind of OK but still kind of run down .
I am going for a better cleaner hotel this coming year.

Roberto.

We stayed at the days Inn and it was ok. We were not there much, long enought to sleep, shower and head back out to the field. It's all in what you want to spend and how far you want to drive.

I stayed at the super 8 for about $40 a night.

It's not the fanciest out there but it had a bed and a shower. What more do you need. You're there to fly, not stay in the hotel room all day.

Stayed at the Signiture for 07 and 08, no probs and the breakfast was good.

For 09 we stayed "on site". It was the nutz, and we're planning on doing it again. Maybe not the best choice with the wife, or if the torential rains of 06 repeat, but it was the best time!

I always find it amazing that in a decent sized college town that there isn't one nice hotel. I've stayed at several and all are questionable at best.

Questionable hotels in Muncie? The Fairfield (Marriot) is outstanding (small parking area, get home early) the HI Express is great, the new Comfort Suites just as good but a bit pricey.
We all used to stay at the Signature (both NATS and IRCHA), but it has gone downhill, and now they will even yell at you for flying out back.
I stayed at the Days Inn for XFC last year and considering that I was only there from like 9PM to 6AM, it served my purpose well. Clean rooms, hot shower, cold AC, wireless and inexpensive (around $50 usually). I know others that stay at the Lee's Inn and have never complained. The old Best Western (across the street) was very good for a while and is now something else, but has been remodeled extensively. I did the RV thing at the field last year and it wasn't as bad as I expected (the late night activities that occur have to be witnessed to be believed), but I'm not sure I want to do that again (borrowed from relative, NC but gas). It was nice though being able to get inside and relax for a little while each day and still be on site and not have to worry about getting over to the field late and finding a place to park.

Signature Inn is where I have stayed the last two years. Lots of fun gos on in the huge parking lot next door. Its always late when I get in and early when I get up so it might not be the nicest place but heck you only sleep there.

I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

Maybe your standards are too high. The way I look at it. I just need to place to put me and my helis over night. A TV doesnt hurt. Cleanliness does count big time. If it is clean and comfortable I am fine. I dont need a Ritz Carlton.

I go to school in Murfreesboro and we have no real nice hotels. A LOT of mid grade hotels (Ramada Inns, Super 8 etc.) and a handful a REAL dumps. The nicest hotel here is the Embassy Suites, and that just opened up in the last 3 or 4 years. MTSU is the largest undergraduate university in TN. I think quantity is more important than quality. Those towns fill up during graduations, convocations, etc. Anytime you have a lot student families in town. They have to have enough rooms to accommodate those people. Then, the rest of the time many of those rooms sit empty. So, I would not think a luxury hotel would be very economical. There is probably a very small market for something like that in Muncie, or any other college towns. Even if it fills up during special events, it may not support it the rest of the time when it is unbooked.

Note: The above is just a theory of mine based on my own personal thoughts and experiences. It seems logical to me.
