Scale Model RC Helicopters > My first scale attempt: HeliArtist AS350 with Trex 450 mechanics (with movie!)

Here's a movie of part of the maiden flight. Here is the result of my first scale attempt. It's rather fun-scale and for the moment I am not planning on major detailing or a tri-blade rotorhead; my goal was to make it more like a helicopter in the air rather than a "flying broom stick" - but maybe when I get bored this winter I might add some detailing, who knows

I started with my 450 as a learning curve towards my next project (Trex 600E mechanics in a Funkey MD500E, also fun-scale ) and I am quite happy with the end result! It is really joyfull to watch this little machine flying around the sky!

It went together quite easiliy. Only minority I found was the quality of the supplied screws (easy to strip and breaking the head off...). Other challenges I had to tackle: the elevator servo (HS65MG) was hitting the fuselage and prevented the fuselage to fit. But with a hairdryer and patience this was easy to get by. Heating the fuselage and slightly deforming cleared it enough to fit easily (it doesnt show from the outside). A bit of dremeling on the doghouse area to clear the swash servo linkages and a bit of dremeling on the tail unit to clear the tail pitch slider, and all was good If I can put this together then everone can

Heliartist AS350 fuselage
Trex 450 SEv2 mechanics
HS65MG cyclic servos
GY401 & S9650 on the tail
JGF500TH motor & Jazz 40-6-18 ESC (headspeed 2100rpm governed)
335mm wooden blades, pitch -3°, 5°, 11° (cyclic 5°), 25% expo

I think I can pull off 9 minutes of flighttime on 2170mah lipos but I am still testing that with FDR's and timed flights.

In 15°C (60°F) ambient temp the post-flight electronics temperature:

Motor: 30°C (85°F)
ESC: 32°C (89°F)
Lipo: 38°C (100°F)

Here's a movie of part of the maiden flight.

I hope you enjoy!

No HiJack Intended!!!!

I posted the picture of mine to help entice Patriek to go ahead and add some detail over the winter.....like the 3 bladed head and some little things like antennas and such make a big difference in the look of the unit, no matter what size......

I am putting together my "450" fleet for the indoor flying that gets started here later this month ALREADY!!!!!! And a 450 "Squirrel" could easily find it's was into that fleet too!!!! I really like the look of Patrieks machine.....

David (and Boyd too), thank you and as for the 3 bladed head, I have no problem flying it... I did install a SK360 so that it would be a little more managable in a breeze, but I did test fly without and really had little problem with it.... But I really like the look with it on.... as seen in the picture....

Thanks, Stan

Doorman , as you say it doesn't have to be big , the 3 blade head makes a huge difference in the looks , and yours looks stunning in the air , and it's got me going. Have lots of fun with it!
