I was thinking maxi joker with four 6 cell lipos or...

maybe a logo 600 with two or three 6 cell lipos or...

a trex 700 with two, three or four lipos....


any suggestions would be great thanks men!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I would love to have long airtime too, but whenever I see someone asking about 15 minutes on an AP ship, I wonder what their goals are.

Does it take more than 2 minutes to get up and over the photo site, or back down to a helipad? (Move closer.) Does it take more than 2 minutes to do a still shot or panorama-series? (Practice.) Do you need to catch a whole 10-minute race or other event on the ground? (Use a blimp, or multiple helicopters.) Are you doing dogfights or other stunts? (Cut the scene into parts.)

There is probably an alternative to hauling a heavy gasser or a huge electric battery. Think about the goals. I'd be interested to hear them.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I'm pretty sure I can get 15mins with my Maxi Joker and 10s 8000mah packs. That is somewhere in the 18-20lb range. For photography you really don't need that. You would be better off to land switch out battery's real quick and easy and go back up. I do two 7min flights with the 8000mah pack all day long.

I think most running the 12s 5000mah packs get 10mins at the limit all the time. Check with nooobs, he posted some graphs recently and you can figure out the mah per minute use. Most will be 300-400mah per minute.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		With the Maxi and your payload you should be able to carry 15A worth of packs to get that duration plus a bit more.

However my experience is most planned shots/takes happen under 5 minutes unless you have to hover and wait for the action.

I've been getting 18 minutes of safe reliable flight with my custom vario heli using tanic 10S lipo setup for years now. What you are asking for is easily accomplished by many combinations. Note my 18 minutes is following the 80/20 rule. I've push it a few times to 25 minutes.

Just for the record, I've NEVER had to fly continuously for more than a few minutes to obtain the video clips that I need for a given sequence.

The flight times were all done during practice and tweaking of my setup.


On a totally off topic note Dave, your buddy Jason liked my heli so much he decided to take the photo above, silhouette it, and use it for his company logo That surprised me, with the plethora of camera ships that you both appear to have why not use one of them for the corporate image????

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have been getting 15 mins using the 80/20 rule with my flybarless streched tr rex 600. I use 12s 5000mah zippy packs and xera 4030 3y. Camera and mount weigh 2.5 kg. It is doable with a bit of reserch.
I have used the full flight time many times when getting video shots. Stills don't take as long.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Take some time to get to know electrics and you can easily find a way to do what you are looking for. You need 50 watts per pound for basic hovering and gentle flight. That means a 20 pound rig will take 1,000 watts. (30 amps at 8s, or 20 amps at 12S) On a 15 amp pack you would run 23 minutes on 8S or 33 minutes on 12S. (80%)
This is optimistic if you are using a lot of collective because it will take more that the 50wpp to move you around. Good stick management will go a long way in an electric heli. The power is there but you don't always have to use it.
