Can anybody direct a newby as to which brand of battery to buy and how many mAh?? I am flying a E-Flite Blade-400 and planning to purchase a Align T-Rex 600ESP + fuselage soon. Here's my dilema: LiPo, LiFe, NiCd, NiMh, ProTek, Turnigy, Hyperion, 3S, 6S, mAh, "lions tigers & bears Oh My!!!" I want the max flight time I can get. Also needs to be compatible with either the Bamtam E-Station BC6-10 or the iCharger 106B+. How do you weed thru the madness??

HELP!!!!

Let's start by saying you'll be using Lipos...some fly A123, but that's probably not you. Secondly, on the Trex 600 Electric you'll need at the very least 6S. I would tell you to run 8S, but that's just my opinion. I think a good starting pack would be a 6S 5000mah. Ask around on the Trex boards and see what size packs will fit that frame, maybe you can go to a higher Mah.

The debate over lipo brands is going on in many other forums right now, but IMO, you can't beat the Turnigys from Hobby City. If you run 6S 5000, the packs are VERY cheap compared to others. If you're gonna run 8S, get 2 4S 5000 packs and run them in series.

Regarding the chargers you listed below...both of them do up to 1 6S at a time. So, 8S or above is out of the question as well as charging more than 1 6S pack at a time. If you think you'll be into larger electrics you might want to consider purchasing a larger charger.

Lipo's or maybe 123's.
HK 6's 5amp with there charger would be a good start.

6 's might suit you on scale 600 project.

4's 5000's in series would be heavy, especially with a fuss.

Like Flag said, there is only one real choice for a new pilot and that is lipos. A123s will work but there are all kinds of complications with them and they are definitely not going to give you a nice long run. The 600 will run anywhere from 6s to 12s depending on your setup, so you need to decide what you want to run. The lower the cell count, the higher the current draw and since you are running a fuse then the current draw will be even higher. I would seriously consider 8s or higher. As for size/weight issues, they all weight about the same if they contain the same Wh. FOr example

6s 5000
Wh = Volts * Ah = 25.2V * 5Ah = 126W

So you could also run a 3750mAh sized 8s pack
Ah = Wh / Volts = 126Wh / 33.6V = 3.75Ah

Or you could run 2500mAh sized 12s pack
Ah = Wh / Volts = 126Wh / 50.4V = 2.5Ah

If you wanted more run time and could handle the weight the run larger packs.

All battery brands are compatible with all chargers, you just need the right adapter board. The Zippys are nativity comparable with the iChargers, so that is a nice clean fit.
