I'm sure this has been covered, but I always like t give my 2C...
I kicked around the idea of an ICE for a while, finally pulled the trigger! I can say I am very pleased with this controller, the Data logging is easy, if a little limited, it can not hold alot of data, and it is best to down load every flight... There is a wealth of good info! the programing was simple, and the Governor works pretty good!
I put a Scorpion 3026-1600 on it, I have a 14tooth pinion and set HS for 2800, it is right up at the limit of what the SET RPM feature says it can hold. The HS seems very stable in flight, the power is very good. This setup only gets 3:30 flight time with my flying style... on a Zippy FM 2650 30C, if you ran a more conservative HS and did less flipping about, I'm sure 4:30 would be easy to achieve!
One of the most important parameters is the Motor Power Out (%) parameter. That’s the internal throttle and tells you how much throttle the governor is using. If it’s bumping 100% and the headspeed is dropping the setup may need a little work. I usually make a plot of just headspeed and Motor Power Out when I am fine tuning the governor.
I set my governor up so that it’s hitting 100% during the last half of the battery discharge. That way I am getting max performance.
Hey Sinjbird, Was that a jet powered dragonfly that flashed before the camera at about 2.55 through the utube video? Sounded impressive! Do you fly 2.4 or 72MHz? Steve
Bentspindle, is this exclusive to the CC gov? I am under the impression that a margin of output (headroom) should be reserved for optimal gov perfrmance. My only successful gov experience is with Kontronik esc's. The general concensus there seems to call for an ideal margin of 15 to 20% headroom.
I ask because I am just waiting for an IceLite to come into inventory for my 450pro. This series looks great so far but CC has developed a bit of a rep for difficult Initial setup.
I do fly 2.4, I do live under the departure path of the local airport! a very comedic chain of events that the dragon fly should pass through the camera at the same time as a Falcon Bizz jet flies overhead out of frame? I didn't get a look to be sure... I was kind of busy! Yes I am topping this governor feature out, but as you can see, I am well within the watt/ amp limits of the speed control, I'm waiting for the mail man to come with my new pinions!
These speed controllers are pretty easy to setup, if you have the Castle link they are child's play!
Looks good SB, did you change pinions between graphs? The bottom one looks better than the top in terms of the governor coping. Top one looks like you need to go up a pinion size.
Ripple V looks slightly better on the bottom one too,was it a newer pack?
Glad you are liking the ICE. I have had my ICE75 for 2 months now, and really love it. Next step will be to try a ICE100 on my Logo 500SE with 8S.
The ICE is for helicopters and has a heatsink. The ICE lite has no heat sink and is designed for narrow fuselage airplanes with lots of airflow. Because if the excess heat buildup the lite is limited to lower voltage and lower peak current.
I have not tried the lite in a helicopter so I don’t know if it will overheat or not. They are both the same price so get the standard one with the heatsink.
Flight Time questionMy 500 is setup very conservatively. Stock ESC with external BEC, stock motor with 13T, V4.0, and Turnigy 3000mah. This is a "duration" setup for me as I get 6:30 minutes of flight. The heli is heavy and feels like my Vibe 50 with this setup, which is my target performance. But I want to increase the flight time to at least another minute. Will the ICE 75 achieve this goal? I was thinking of putting in a 14T pinion in the stock motor, and utilize the governor to increase flight time.
Has anyone tried this? Your input will be much appreciated.
With the same throttle settings, won't a 12T spin the blades slower than a 13T? And then in order to maintain the same head speed, you will have to bump up the throttle curve, draining the battery even faster. This is how I understand it. Please clarify.
It really is hard to increase FT with out adding mAH? My flight time went down going to the CCICE only because I moved to a scorpion motor, and set the heli up to increase performance... I may have over shot my goal, as the heli is ballistic now!
can you post the answer for all. It does seem logical that a 12 tooth would require more throttle and, as such, drain the batt faster. I'm confused too!
