I am havin some problems setting up my tail pitch on teh old atom... If you move the slider to the end of the pitch to the right there is like 25' pitch on the blades, then if you move the slider the other way, it hits on the pitch slider plate. I am setting up the Spartan 760, and just would like to hear some insight to how you fellas have your pitch setup on the tail. Thanks

I'm running a DS760 on my Atom and I just set the limit toward the tail case as close to the slider arm as I can without it hitting (1mm or so clearance). On the other extreme, I think I have it about 3-4mm short of hitting the hub, although I probably don't need that much. It flies very well with pretty consistent right and left piro rates.

Thanks. I'll try it like that. The tail has been blowing out on me in a tailslide etc. And I got freaked out about the massive amount of antitorque pitch in the tail. We'll see if the re setup helps.

the problem is the tail blades are trail edge control. as it sits, the tail is compensating with torque. you need to flip the blade grips around in to get the correct mechanical setup. once you flip the grips you shouldnt have this problem

what's involved in flipping the grips? Just flip the grips and then the blades? What's the setup other than that? Do you still run the 7' pitch at centre slider?

Hi Spackermen,

just like David says, just flip the grips, this has nothing to do with your tailblades !! Tailblades need always to be put in the same way.

Out of the box the tailrotor is installed as trailing edge once you do the grip flip, the flips are installed as leading edge !!

The tailrotor works more accurate when installed as leading edge.

Grtz,
Dirk

The grip flip seems counter-intuitive to me. With the grips trailing-edge controlled, the greater available pitch (slider all the way to the right) is opposite the direction of torque (leading edge left, pushing the tail left), as it seemingly should be. It seems to me you'd lose a lot of torque compensation by going leading edge.

I fly my Atom with trailing control and I have a rock solid tail. I noticed it i possible to get a stupid amount of travel. The thing is if you look it will hit the plastic parts when you spin the tail rotor. You don't want to go that far over. If you set the travel to right before it contacts those plastic pieces it will be even both directions. Basically what TheBum said.

Ha. I was just going to post about the grip flip. I just did it and I think it corrects geometry issues that the atom has in the tail. If you have your grips stock you can get insane amounts of pitch (45'?) counter torque. I think that's way too much pitch. I've been having piro stop problems and I've contributed it to not having enough pitch with torque. I donno lol. I guess we'll see later today if it helps for me?

Flipping the grips was the trick! When I piro either direction, it stops solid now. No "over shooting" like it was doing earlier to me. IF you want to do this mod, it's really pretty simple. Pull your pins that secure the ball links to the slider, and flip them over, re install the pin, and flip the grip over. Then flip your blades over so they are in the right direction. Then reverse the servo, and the gyro correction direction and you'll be good to go!

I got it,piece of cake.upon closer inspection, the pins are held by the plastic links.ok,time to re-set up the tail and see how this goes.I almost never do ANYTHING to a heli that is flying great, but if the team pilots and the factory are recommending this,i'll give it a try.Plus i just put a futaba 520 on it,this thing should perform awesome

fenderstrat,

You will love that GY520.

The Atom tail is already one of the best out there-the GY520 makes it even better!
