Having a problem here. My trex 450 that i just purchased off here has a problem. It will go through the soft start up but when i start applying power to get off the ground the motor cuts out. It worked fine the other day and i havent changed anything. What would cause this? I back the stick back down and it will come on but as soon as i give it some power it just cuts off. Thanks for any help given on this! It has a bl 35g esc i think. Black with gold heatsink. Doesn't have any label on it and it has a 430x motor.

Try to reprogram the ESC it might be that the brake is enabled. If that dont help it could be the ESC going bad. I have the same problem with my 60 amp ESC. At least thats how it started to act up. With an erratic throttle. Just sent it out and they said it checked good and sent it back to me. Now it dont even power the reciever. IT will show 5 1/2 volts output but when you plug it into the reciever the voltage drops to .80 volts

That shouldn't have any problem hovering even if the esc is not programed correctly. If there is something not right causing some binding somewhere it could be drawing too much power and the esc may be cutting off the power. Things I'd check for; tight pinion mesh, tracking, vibrations or any binding in the head. Also verify the battery condition/voltage if possible.
Secondly I'd check the programing in the esc. There should be a setting on how to set the voltage cut off. If you don't know what kind of esc you have you most likely have the programing instructions to verify how the voltage cut-off is set.

Rob,

I got my Rex 450 off e-bay. It, too, did not come with any manuals. I looked the maunals up online. I know it's a bit late, sounds like you're almost finished, but I used the Ray's helitech DVDs to set my Rex 450 up. Once everything was finished I took the 450 out for a trial hover and it was sooo close to being spot on. I adjusted one blade and it was good to go. The video series does a great job of explaining what you're doing and why. When you get the final product in the air, it all makes perfect sense.
