Heli schools

I'd be up for attending one just for the fun of it. I am sure I'd benefit on setup and flying both. Frankly, there are days I enjoy going out, trying new stuff and some days only cruising around and bs-ing with the guys. I had a recent day, where clearly, I didn't feel confident for some reason. The next time out, I felt fine. I am sure there are tips for me to progress faster, but am not sure that is my priority. Having fun is it for me. Perhaps at some point, I will be more driven to advance faster. I still can't believe I have been able to get from the little coaxials to some inverted flying and sporty aerobatics in little over a season. I am not trying to praise myself, but I didn't think I could do it when I began. By being patient with myself and not letting early crashes discourage me, I kept going and flying more and building more. I think an RC heli school would just add even more.

max232 yea, i need to get Phoenix, is that better than RF g4?
There both equal, one is no better than the other and if someone says ones better than the other there 100% wrong, its good for them and thats about it.The only thing that will make you a better flyer is ALOT of sim/stick time.I used both sims and stuck with Realflight cause I don't like the ideal of useing my own radio, thats the only reason. The only thing a flight school can teach you IMO is all the basics then its up to you from there. You can learn the same thing at your local club and its free.

I agree with you on both, that's why I said Phoenix is better in my opinion. Phoenix is better for me since since I like to fly with my own radio so I have the same tension and same stick height both on the sim and out on the field so my hands don't have to adapt from one another. I know its a very little adjustment, but same as like playing a guitar, I can shred on a paperneck than when I pick up the Gibson with a '59 neck I can still play but it takes time to adjust to get up to the same speed.

As for schools, if you don't need basics anymore I'm sure you can get the rest fiugred out with the buddies at the field or by putting in some serious sim time and field time

Fly it like you stole it!!!

+1 ^^^ and thats what im saying.Places charge $300.00-$400.00 bucks.I would rather take that money, buy a ton of crash parts and have fun.Join a club and hit the sim hard, thats your flight school. If you wanna learn 3D you have to push yourself, noone can do that for you.Thats just my opinion.

Paul Rhodes

For what it's worth, Paul Rhodes of Houston taught me most of my basic flight training in a few months of hard work. I think we had a few hundred flights with no crash, and minimal time repairing things, just learning to hover. I found his rates reasonable, and he was flexible enough to work around my demanding work schedule.

I work as a technology consultant, mostly for big multi-national companies, so work can be demanding to say the least at times. I find it hard to find an entire week or even a weekend to go traveling to a flight school. And I never could find enought people interested to be worth it to bring Todd Bennet and friends down for a few days of learning.

Paul's email is helitutor@sbcglobal.net. I think he is on RR as well, but I can't remember his nick, so anyhow, not a bad deal, IMHO...

Not a bad deal is joining a local club and buddy boxing for free, thats a good deal and you'll have all the hands on help free too.Anyone in our area is more than welcome to join our club and i'll buddy box and fly with them everyday.Maybe its me but I rather help someone any way I can cause I love this hobby, don't understand why someone will charge people for stuff like this unless there 300 miles from a club.I don't understand why someone wants to pay someone to teach them to hover,do basic flight and learn to work on there heli when its free at a club .

I did a flight school today in Coram, NY with Frank Columbia. It was a blast and I learned alot and I will take what I learned and practice, practice, practice till I can do it in my sleep. He had me do orientation drills and some loops, rolls, flips, and inverted. Oh yeah and tail slides and figure eights. The sim will be getting a work out from now on. Frank is very good instructor and belive me by the end of the day I was wore out I had to call no mercy. Lol.
Four times he saved my heli from biting the dust.
Thanks again Frank, I will be coming back when I have mastered what I was taught.

I did one day with Todd Bennet once years ago, best day and best money I ever spent in the hobby. He got me past the rut I was in. I was ready to progress but was holding myself back and he gave me the confidence I needed to get past it.

Todd Bennett's school is awesome!

This hobby is like Kryptonite to chicks!
