I can tell you that the A frames were not cast. I made them all originally, and all from solid. The sprectra A frames were a consatant thickness, in other words they were not lightened the way the stratus a frames are.
Are the A frames that are breaking the old style, or are they the lightened version?

I`ve just ordered a couple of stock A frames for my spare parts box just in case.
I`m up for a couple of upgraded parts if anyone starts making any.

If you use SS it will be a lot heavier than the aluminum one and then it needs to black anodized

You can't anodize stainless and why would you? Stainless is three times stronger and three times heavier so you use 1/3 the material and you end up with the same thing.

I could look into making a stainless bracket if there were someone close by that can give me the important dimensions and do the testing. In volumes of 100 or more I can't see the cost being more than 20 bucks.

but the vast majority of the parts in our kits are produced right here in the USA.

So are Bergens and the price reflects it. There is nothing (hobby related) that is CNC'd in the US that can compete with off shore. Strictly speaking once a part is CNC'd the skill part is gone. So if you have a "machine operator" loading the billets in the US for 14/hr as opposed to a "machine operator" loading the billets in china for .25/hr, who do you think is going to win?

The parts can be engineered in India, Pakistan, and as a packaged deal in China. The pressure is for lower prices first, quality comes later. Look at the constant begging for more T-Rex's on products that they don't even have yet. The demand is price. Nobody gives a whoot about anything made in the US. Government Motors prooves it.

BCM, you used to work for MA?

I think the A-frames which are cracking are lightened because they are different from the old style A-frames which do not have the notch cut out for the spark plug boot. These old style A-frames have apparently been discontinued.

Breaking News!!

Brian just emailed me to let me know that Tim at MA had redesigned the A-frame awhile ago, and that the new batch of beefed up A-frames would be available for sale in the next couple of weeks. Brian follows this forum, and he will let us know when they are available.

So this problem solved.

Isn't Miniature Aircraft a great company to work with?

Good stuff!

Yes I expected that to happen as when I was talking with them and Tim I voiced my concerns and they said they would do it. I asked for the spark plug center hold to be smaller, so the ring around it could be fatter/more meat to it. Would be interesting to see if that is how they did it or if they came up with a different idea than mine.

Fixit, tested with rear zimmerman, no. Just beefed up so its stronger A frames now, and folks will have to test with the new A-frames if they work then you all will have a working rear muffler

bcm the version that I have has been relieved on one side to allow the plug cap to sit more easily. I apologise if they're not cast I assumed that for it to fracture as it has then it was. I'm no engineer but I did used to work in an engineering factory and they never used to produce parts for high stress areas from castings, they were alway's forged or CNC'd.

jrockstuart that's great news on the upgraded A frame so thanks to you and Raja for championing the cause. Do you know if there is a pre order facility to enable people to order them in advance. The reason I ask is that if with no idea of demand they only produce a small batch then us Johnny foreigners may dip out on the first run.

MinAirUSA nice to see a company man on the forum, hopefully offering the kind of support Chris Bergen gives his customers on here. The bad news for him if there are to be upgraded parts and a degree of customer support on here is that he'll lose out on an order. I'd been seriously looking at trading the Spectra for a Bergen, but if the future is looking brighter I'll hang in there as I really like the way it flies. I may have it completely wrong but as has been said I think if you bring out some quality upgrades people will buy them. I'm not rich but I would rather pay once for quality than 3 times for junk. 3 sales may be better than one for the company but only to the point where the customer then deserts them.
Anyway nice to see you on here.

Smallplanes I appreciate the cost of a stock A frame is $17.00 but I'm also aware that the more expensive the material the higher the end cost would be. I they made a titanium version and it cost £40.00+ I'd pay it rather than $17.00 every couple of months, it would still work out cheaper in the long run.

There is no way to pre-order them. I already asked about that. Hopefully there will be enough to go around.

I love my Spectra Superb quality

Even so I have got a T Rex700,600N,600E and a T Rex500 and they are not bad for the money - you know the old `buy one and get one free` thing with the spares.

Thinking of getting another MA heli as well - maybe a new Fury50 anyway and sell one of the `Chinese`ones.

For now though I just wish we could get the MA parts easier.

Smallplanes we buy the far east heli's because we can get the parts for them easily over here. We buy the U.S 'junk' on the basis of not needing the spares due to the better quality. But when the quality isn't what you'd expect for the bucks you pay, remember what you pay in dollars we pay roughly the same in GB pounds, then you begin to question your decision. Your $1000 dollar kit costs $1650 dollars here so perhaps you can see where we're coming from when we're disappointed that for a few bucks extra these could be so much better.
Still hopefully if customer concerns are going to be addressed then things can only get better and we'll end up with a well sorted heli.

Good point Graham

I remember the flybar issue when I first started to put my Spectra together - what a nightmare that was

Things may be looking up a bit for us then - I`ll be well pleased
