What has been your experience with Avant customer service?

I have flown several different helicopters, and on one end of the spectrum I place Align which has essentially zero customer service. If you receive a part from Align which has been manufactured incorrectly, you pretty much have to throw the part away. On the other end of the spectrum is Miniature Aircraft. If a MA part is manufactured incorrectly, they will replace it for you free of charge. Moreover, if you crash and damage a part or if the part wears out, you can send it back to MA and they will repair the part for you. I've even had MA manufacture some custom parts for me. I'm wondering how Avant compares.

Has anyone had a warranty issue with Avant, and if so, what was your experience? Will they make custom parts for you? How about if you damage something through normal use? Can you get the part repaired, or do you need to just throw it away and buy a new one?

my experience has been great, I had a couple issues with my aurora at ircha and augusto took care of everything and replaced the parts I needed with no questions asked. If it had been my 700 I would have just had to buy new parts and they could care less.

Hey, that's great news. I think it is important before investing in an expensive new helicopter to do some research on the company. I really appreciate your comments.

Justin Barry, I appreciate your publishing of Avant's policies, but what I'm really interested in learning more about is people's actual experiences with Avant and with Avant customer service (such as Merlin3's above post). I also see that you are part of Team Avant. With all due respects, in an effort to get the most objective reviews possible, I am most interested in learning from people who are not sponsored by Avant or personally affiliated with Avant.

I do not know much about Augusto or his company, and since I am planning to invest at least $1000 and probably a couple of years into an E-Aurora, I want to learn all I can.

I can't speak about Avant, but let me give you a little review of Miniature Aircraft for comparison. In the last year, MA was sold to a new company and Brian James was chosen as the manager. Brian has been very good to myself and to the people I know. For example, a friend of mine received a clutch which was probaby defective in an MA kit because it burnt up the first time he flew his new MA heli. Brian FedEx'd a brand new clutch to him overnight on Saturday at no charge to him. While MA parts are not as ubiquitous as some other heli brands, there are a a few stores in the US which carry MA parts and I can usually find any part I want at any time (with a few exceptions).

Does anyone have a similar story they can share about their experience with AvantRC?

My experience with Augusto in the early days of release with the Aurora was very good. My kit was missing some parts, no problems getting them quickly.

Now, who knows what the current status is...there are no kits being produced that I'm aware of.

I personally have had an issue with my kit and it was addressed appropriately by Avant RC. From my experience I believe they have an excellent approach to this area of the business.

I talked with Augusto personally tonight via email regarding this topic and some other topics I have started in the recent past. He spent a long time explaining to me some of the controversies which have surrounded his product for the last couple of years. This helped me to better understand what is actually going on with Avant because there are a lot rumors and speculation that surround this company which can make a new buyer quite nervous.

I get the strong impression now that Augusto is a very trustworthy guy. I am very satisfied with this kind of customer service.

I agree with Jody, personally I've had no problems with my Aurora.

Obviously down here we deal direct with Power Grunt Hobbies the Australian distributor, hence I've had no direct communication with AvantRC as such, quite a few people have these heli-s now and there have been some crash's and general maintenance requirements etc, spare parts availability hasn't been an issue during these times and the service we receive is second to none..

Does Avant have a 800 customer service number, where you can actually talk to a customer service rep.?

I don't know about an 800 number, but I do know you can go to AvantRC and join the forums.

Can you share with the rest of us who, like you, want to know? Why are these "issues" so secretive? A heli that's made in the US that isn't available in the US, I just want to understand.

not "legally" from what I understand about Avant's sales territories. Those reliable sources, if they are outside of the US, should not be shipping a helicopter to the US. Not that that would stop me if I were ready to buy one. I still want to understand what the issue is with Avant supplying kits HERE. Doesn't sound like good "customer service" to me. There are 2 distributors in the US and they don't have any. I'll stick to my statement, but more importantly my question.

It's not illegal to buy kits, I think you may be referring to some kind of distributor policy. AvantRC will support you no matter where you get your kit.

Kits are easy to get, parts are easy to get, AvantRC responds promptly to support inquiries, what more could you want?

As for AvantRC not sharing information about there business in public forums, I wouldn't either, you guys are brutal.

LOL Could not agree more, and as history has shown they did try to be open but no one believed them!

I don't know their history, so this statement means nothing to someone on the outside.

OK, whatever you say, but there are too many question marks for me to sink my money into their product. They can keep it as private as they wish. I am sure they will support their product however you got it, but I do believe that the overseas distributors should not be shipping them to the U.S., and what's more, THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO! I don't own one, and I'm not bashing, I'm just trying to learn about the company, as the thread starter is. No need to post any more on my comments, this isn't my thread and I didn't mean to take it over, my apologies.

I'm not an expert on Avant history, but to the best of my understanding here are the facts:

Augusto used to make a kind of modified Freya helicopter for his friends, but then he decided to produce a kit of his own design called the Aurora. He has had some falling outs with people over the years for a variety of reasons, and apparently these people are currently spreading negative and incorrect publicity about his company on these forums which is why a lot of these topics get closed. The people currently selling kits on Ebay are in violation of Avant's distributor policy and will not receive any more kits. The reason kits are not available in the US now is because a lot of kits were promised to people in other countries first, so Augusto needs to fill those orders before he starts shipping kits to US distributors.

That's all I know, but Augusto will personally answer your questions if you join the AvantRC website.

I get the impression that he is a trustworthy guy and that he is really having to swim against the current to get his company off the ground. I think the real evidence for this is that he promised kits to people in other countries and he is fulfilling those orders as promised.

It would be hard to start your own helicopter company. There is a lot of competition. I think Augusto will get my hard earned money for an E-Aurora. I want to support his business. I think the design of the helicopter is very good, and I also like the fact that it is US made. We need to support our own economies.
