Im looking for some basic settings for sport/FAI type flying. I have the Century Raven, OS 50 Hyper/All cnc head, clutch, fan, tail. I have the Rotortech FAI 615mm mains and stock tail blades for now. All rotating things are ballanced to perfection. The fuel is 20% nitro with an OS A-3 plug. The muffler is the Century CN3038 silent power. The gyro is a 401. I am also running the harder red dampers in the head which I drilled out some to make them fit a little better and be somewhere between the stock and the hard red ones. The machine tracks and flies really well. I am running a Align gov in idle 1-2 of 1900 rpm but in hover mode 1650rpm. All seems well but on a hard climb out it seems the engine over speeds and the tail kicks out a bit then it recovers, Im running +10/-10 pitch. It almost seems like the clutch may be slipping. Maybe some throttle pitch curves that are working well for you may not work for me but I will give them go as a starting point to diagnose the problem. Thanks for any replies!

If it doesn't fly sell it!

when i had the 401 and stock blades, stock rod, etc. i would see a small teeny tiny kick at the start of a climbout but other than that it held steady on the way up. it could be a slipping one-way or clutch as you mentioned. i would also look that the gyro gain is high enough and you're sufficiently far out on the tail servo horn.

is the tail servo travel endpoints maximized? also, check the set screw that secures the pinion on the TT input drive side(the one driven by the main gear) and make sure it's tight. this last item was my problem when i had similar symptoms.

good luck, hope you find the cause.

All seems to be locked down and in the proper position, But Sunday I noticed the GY401 blinking. Im going to look futher into what has changed and why the 401 is blinking. Never the less it was a great flying day. Temperature at 70 deg and 6 mph wind at sunset. I am realising that my eyesight at 47 is not as good as it used to be and tend to loose orientation at far a way distances. This is a major problem and just irks me to no end!!! Almost lost it and decided to get a pair of glasses before continuing.

If it doesn't fly sell it!

you need to setup your heli and Curves for what's best for you, the way you want it, the way you want it to feel,,

"" I am running a Align gov""

well with a Governor your Head Speed will always remain a what you set the governor at, so you just need to try different Pitch Curves to find what is right for you and where you want your Throttle Stick when hovering and landing,,

as for the Tail I'm not sure what the problem is, but what Tail Blades are you using, with the longer Main Blades and the powerful Hyper 50 try some larger RotorTech Tail Blade, that really make the 401 hold,,

as for Head Speed, that too is a personal preference,, but let me add my friend has been flying FAI/F3C since 1974 and he keeps a lower Head Speed yet he has his Cyclic mechanically fast, on his 50s he uses a Head Speed of 1600 to 1750, again it's personal preference so don't be feeling you have to copy other people's setups,

Pitch,, if you want more pull pop it up to 11 if you want,,

PS,
1) you do know RR has a FAI/F3C page ??, you can get some good tips there,,
2) you may want to think about getting the NX 50 control system, most likely it's a more straight-forward control system that is easier to setup (JMO)..

cool ,, that's great,,

you know I have talked to a few people that just don't know how well the Century's 30/50s fly,, I mean I had a few guys try to get me to move to another brand,, well gezz they just don't get it,, IF their helis didn't fly so well I wouldn't fly them,, plus I know the heli rather well so I can fix it rather quickly,,

oh, sorry, I'm cheerleading here
