Personally, I don't use the washer but that's just me. Others have exclaimed that the backplate is in jeapordy because of this. I see where they are coming from but I'll take the risk. With all the oil flying around in the engine, it would probably take a century to cause any real wear on the backplate. My fan hub is so close to the bearing, I don't really think it walks much anyway and no, it doesn't rub on the engine case or the bearing case.
Regardless, I'd recommend finding a slightly thinner washer. Just be sure it isn't so thin that it distorts and rubs the case or bearing. |
