Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > Interesting Mini-V Issue

Just getting my Mini-V dialed in and on the 4th flight something very interesting happened.

I'm running on a stock trex 500 that has over 300 flights on it w/o issues. I've also added the RJX FLB head.

On the fourth flight the power just cut out for approx 1 second and all of the servos jumped. I still had control though and was able to auto it in.

Attempting to recreate it I spooled up on the ground and I couldn't even get to full RPM before lifting off when it did the same exact thing.

And the first thing that I checked was the lights on the two satellite RX's and they were both solid signifying no power loss?

I am at a loss on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start wiggling wires..Look for loose connectors, or solder joints letting go

300 flights. If you have a stock motor it’s probably used up. Also some Align ESC’s have been known to fail. If the motor failed it could have taken out the ESC.

The stock power system is absolutely fine. Why would it all of the sudden bite the dust after that many succussful flights coincidently when I mount a mini-v?

I have just thuroughly finished looking over all the wires and all is in order.

Nope, just using the stock built-in linear BEC. Shouldn't be a problem.

Seems like I read someone having trouble with the BEC on the Align ESC when they went with the Vbar.

How would it be a static issue with a torque tube? Why would it just manifest itself only now that the mini-v is installed? And wouldn't the rx lights blink if it was a static problem?

Hello

Ive seen this happen personally and not on just the V's.

Here is a run down of potential causes.

Damaged signal wires(is the insulation damaged, are the crimps damaged).

Damaged motor bearings. We have damaged more than one Align T500 motor front bearing.

Bad BEC(the align BEC has bit me too..works great till it doesn't)

Broken Rx Pins(sometimes crashes break the pins loosse in poorly assembled Rx's...Ive seen some very poorly soldered)

Electrical discharge comes from more than just the belt. And poor power will put you in the dirt too.

I'm just starting to play with flybarless systems, and here's an info I found could help you diagnose your problem...

The FBL system constantly tries to correct the position of your swashplate ( to maintain the correct helicopter attitude...(, so it makes servos draws much more current than a non-FBL system. Maybe your BEC isn't up to the task with this new power-consumming setup?

Thanks for that list Eco8gator, I will go over everything very thoroughly again to ensure that none of those issues are present.

It would still seem weird to me that everything was fine w/o any sign of issues until the mini-v was mounted. Yes I know that an FBL system is more taxing all around and that everything must be in tip top shape but I know many others who are running the stock align components with great success with the vbar.

Most of the stock BEC that comes with kits come up short in this department. If you are worried about this, you may want to look into a separate regulator. Like the ReactorX. The higher voltage setups though, have a less of a problem in this department.

I find the harder I "throw down" at the field... the more peices i have to pick up.

I did the "pitch pump power supply" test and everything checks out normal so I don't think that it's a BEC issue.

Power up the motor too with the main and tail blades off and try the same thing. We had a galled motor shaft that caused crazy electrical noise. One thing I have found that from the top level its very easy to point out the fbl system as the issue but 99% of the time I found that something else caused the issue.

Good luck with your search and keep us posted on what you find.
