I run 1150 head speed with Rotortech 830's. Sounds awesome on descent. Like most, I run the needles at 1 1/4 to 1 3/8 turns out and use my temp gun on the head to make sure I am under 230 degrees. I use Amsoil synthetic at 3.5 ounces per gallon of 87 octane gasoline.

1150 head speed

You can scale around like that, but if you want better performance you're going to have to turn up the head speed. That thing can fly with 710/720's and with about 50% more head speed.

I'm running 1400 rpm on the head using 810's. Did you get a generator with yours? If not, watch your on-board battery voltage. The way that RC 26 sips fuel, you can easily outfly your battery. I have yet to fill the tank more than half way and I'm getting 15-18 minute flights.

You will appreciate the low parts count of the Mongoose after that first oops. Yes, this is the voice of experience!

I was amazed how fast this baby will go when you let it loose; it ends up at the far side of the field in a hurry. It's size and color (orange in my case) make it easy to see even at the far end.

Mine is sitting on the table now getting a Stator Gator and GV-1 installed.

Thanks guys for the response i thought for a moment i was the only one with this awesome heli. I tached the head & is running at 1480 in the hover so i might drop it a bit. Oil is Stihl oil for chainsaws @ a mix of 40 to 1 & 91 octane petrol this was reckomended to me by the chainsaw shop & after 5 litres change to 50 to 1. What do you reckon ???

oil/mix

I run a 25 to 1 mix, synthetic/oil. I have great results with this mixture.

I had my engine worked over by BH Hanson and their recommendation was 28:1 with non-syntheic for the first gallon, then switch over to a good syntheic. I'm about to make that switch. My next gallon will be 32:1 with Amsoil Sabre and 40:1 after that.

You won't have any trouble with that, mine run like this.

No, I have have left mine just as it came from Airstar. I'm not into 3d and my Mongoose is destined for a scale body. I got the GV-1 installed last night and the Stator Gator truly is plug-n-play! Now I have to figure out how to do a mix so throttle hold will over-ride the Gv-1 (I THINK I have that done now, function test tonight or tomorrow).

Switch "STSW" ON from INH.

Do a search I posted a whole thread on "how to" install a gv-1, its a step by step approach that will walk you through all the settings.

+1 for searching for Raja's set-up thread on the GV-1. Find the one with instructions on the "hidden" menu as well. I printed them out and I keep them in my flight box. Thanks Raja!

This is excellent. Larry will not have to worry about battery power at all tomorrow so he will be performing some wild 3D with his Mongoose. I will report back with full details...

As these things come from airstar the heads tend to be set-up for scale or training, they are a bit asymmetrical. On mine I adjusted the linkage rods so that zero pitch was in the center of the swash travel. It is pretty easily achievable with the stock push rods, its just doesn't tend to be the way that they are set-up from airstar, and you'll likely have to change it to reach the desired negative pitch and have the nice symmetrical head you are used too.

Hey guys ive now got 7 tanks of fuel thru the motor havent touch the needles from factory but i am now starting to see a vibration in the skids & rear vertical tail fin its only slight should i start to lean this out or wait until ive got 5 litres thru it to run in?? The main nedle is exactely as per book 1 3/4 H & 1 1/2 L the other strange thing is if i sit on the ground ticking over for a while & then throttle up it wont come on the pipe & the head speed drops from 1450 to about 1100 so i have to land & spool up slowely trying to get it on the pipe & then its away again. The pipe is the straight stainless zimmerman one from airstar. How lean can i go with this motor??

Cheers

You can lean it out some

With the extra oil for break-in you don't need to fun them filthy rich as they do for nitro motors during breakin. In fact with gas motors run them right on the needles and put extra oil for breakin is a better choice then run them rich as they vibrate more when rich.

You can close down the high and low by 1/8th turn and see what happens from there. 1 5/8 on high and 1 3/8 on low is still on the richer side of things in my books.
