I have only been into helis for about a year now and was wondering what some of you more experienced pilots think. I have 2 belt cps but they are a pain to get parts for so I really want to go with an align kit. I was lookin at the 250 and the 450 which should I get. I have 4 hs 65mg's. Will these work on the 250? I would set them up with dx6i and 401 on either of the kits I get. Is ther any problems that a newer guy such as my self would run into with these? Which is cheeper to fix when I fly it into the ground? Also I was looking at xheli.com at the exi 450 the kit is only 49.99 is this a good alternitiv to the trex450 as the parts are 100% compatible.

Nothing is ever 100% compatible or the same quality. Get Align, you'll be happier in the end. The bigger the more stable so get a 450Sport.

I had both and sold my 250. I may buy another. I have flown the 450 Se V2 and put it on the shelf upon getting into nitros. I have upgraded my 450 to the likes of the Sport. I am extremely happy with the 450 now. The 250 seems like a novelty to me. My vote is the 450 sport for sure. The sport has the belted tail for forgiveness when you hit the tail on the ground. You can easily upgrade the belted tail to torque tube (shaft drive) when your ready. Since your making the transition I might also ad the Trex 500. This is the last heli I bought and ironically it should have been the first. I feel the 500 would be your single heli that can take you through the learning curve into extreme flight. That bird is AMAZING! Not to worry if your hearts not set on the 500 the 450's by Trex are still awesome helis. Parts availability is just not an issue. There every where.
Have fun.

If you want to fly without fiddling, then the 450 would be the ticket for you. The HS65s will fit either heli, as will the 401. The 401 is a bit on the big side, but it fits, and it works.

The 250 takes quite a bit of tinkering to get flying well, and the more experience you have setting up helis, the better chance you have of getting to to fly well. If you're a relative novice, the 450 is the heli for you.

The 450 these days is truly a rock-solid, good-flying bird. A few years ago, maybe not. But now, the kinks are pretty much worked out and they fly well.

+1 on the 450

The bigger helis are truly more stable and thus easier to fly. As was also said... bigger is less finiky to also setup.

I also then recommend a 500 over a 450... but your 65s would not work in that bird... so the 450 may make more sense for you from that stand point.

You are on the right track about a Trex from the parts availability stand point

Just a thought... but there are some really good deals on version 1.5 & 2.0 T450SEs in the classifieds. You can get a used airframe from $100 to $125 pretty easily (maybe even less for a 1.5)

As a side note... my v1.5 is tough as nails. I have wreaked it many times... and the alum pieces and the frame have yet to break (hope I didn't just jinx myself now).

Main shaft, spindle shaft, blades, sometime the boom (and belt once in a great while)... that is about it. Get a fiberglass canopy... they crack when you wreak them... but nothing a piece of tape on the inside can't fix. The plastic canopy is stronger (well maybe really just more flexible)... but when it cracks... chunks eventually come off... and you end up replacing it sooner than I have in wreaking a fiberglass one (and taping it up).

Also... get the plastic canopy stand offs. They will break eaiser than the alum ones... and that is a good thing. The alum ones end up breaking the canopy more in a wreak.

Last... metal gears if you can. Eventually I ended up upgrading all of them, as I stripped the nylon ones out here and there.

+2 for 450. Get a Sports or Pro. I have 250 and Pro. 450 is easier choice to learn the flying skills. Recommend to buy Align 450 Sports combo pack. Everything is inside and no upgrade required. Most flyer in here appreciate the quality and flying characteristics of new Sports.

Thanks for all the great advice but As far as stability goes, I am not to worried about it. I am into alittle inverted backwards some low flips. and a few other things that altimatly usualy break my stuff. I fly a raptor 30, but I want to up to the 50, also have several smaller cp electrics I am just looking to further advance my skills and not go broke or wate a week for parts.

Just keep in mind that the 250 does take some skill and experience to get flying well. It's not a bolt it together and go fly kind of heli.

I think I want the 450 mostly cause it is bigger and pry alot eiser to see. Also pretty much all the parts for the 250 are sold out. And I am really not that good at setting these things up. it seems that I just start getting something flying the way I want it to and then it takes its self apart again.

+1 for the 500!! You will end up with one eventually, so it is by far the way to go as far as size and stability, but definitely not the 250!!!

I would consider a 500 but the crash cost is compareable to my raptor.. I am gonna go with the 450 hs 65ms a 401 and I dont know about this spectrum system I think I might go with a futaba fast as the spectrum is having issues. And I am not going to take a chance with my helis on a junk system....

Haven't had time to read all the new posts yet but Dkshema is right about the 250 and tinkering. That is one reason I sold mine.
